With so many new tunes out, we wanted our group to be selling just KDMAX.
We had a few guys that sell all the different tunes out there so they are moving on to doing that. We wish them well and will be getting new guys in those areas.

Hm.. so are the lite, normal, and sport tunes the same between regeared and non-regeared options? Seems like what you are saying, folks may go down a level or two after regearing due to excessive throttle response?

I was wondering is the Pro tune for 4.88 or 5.29 was optimized for trucks that regeared, and if so what optimizations?

 

Correct, so you may find that the current throttle is too much/little based on the mod you apply. You also want to use the tune for the "optimal" shiftpoints of an auto tranny so if you regear you would ideally get the tune adjusted for that. While test driving for that you want to ensure you are happy with the throttle as regearing has proven to not need as much throttle to overcome the truck weight so you can often run it lower.

 

Is there a way to know which tune would provide the "optimal" shiftpoints for the auto tranny after regear, or would one need to try out each to decide. Also does my current pro tune already get rid of the speed governor for 5.29, or would I need to retune to remove that? Not sure if all tunes automatically get rid of the speed governor.

 

i tune in Chicago pretty regularly

 

The tunes we offer are segmented by gearing so if you went to 5.29 we would apply that related tune. All custom tunes do alter the governor so I expect you are covered there. It's stock that you'll never reach 88 miles an hour Marty

 

The speed governor is adjusted on all tunes including 5.29's.
I would go with Pro+ with 5.29's start on the Normal throttle. Test drive it for feel and your own driving style. See what feels right for you.
I am running 5.29's on 295/70/17's and the shift points are spot on. I use Sport throttle its what i prefer and i am very used to it.

 

Quick update. Vehicle is a 2017 TRD Pro. 285 Dura-Tracs. 5.29 Gears. I tow a 22’ Travel Trailer, a large Landscaping trailer, Boats, cars etc. I also wheel and like to go fast. I started with Ovtune yearsssss ago. It was all good. Except for the trial testing of all those damn 1.03, 1.04, 1.05.hfriegivergigiregvr. It never ended. Found Kreg. PAPAREE Well, shit. Told the feller what my set up was and he sent me a tune. Wow. There might have been a days worth of driving for the ECU and TCM to learn but shit. Nothing like Mat’s old tunes. As time evolved, Kreg studied and learned more and refined these tunes more and more. Holy cow. It’s really hard for an automotive tech with 34 years of wrenching to change something that works well but the more Kreg learned the more my rig got better and better and better. In fact, I believe if you scroll back 100+ posts you might find a post from the designer himself quoting that I have the fastest Naturally aspirated Tacoma in North America (on 285’s w/ a shell and weight). It’s not about the speed. It’s how the rig drives daily. With a load or without. Power when you need it plus better fuel economy PLUS proper shifting. If I didn’t find Kreg. This truck would have been sold or traded in years ago. I should be hitting 50k miles this week. The last 30k of them have been on PapaRees tunes. Currently I’m on a Pro+ (I think). Bottom line is, You can bolt on an exhaust. You can install a cold mass air filter, you can install a shift sense pro, you can install an ECT always on. You are not going to get any benefits compared to a tune from PAPAREE. (Note: I have not installed ANY of these items. Actually, I did install an ECT Always on and a Shift Sense Pro but have removed both and sold them on Tacoma World) And a side note…I’ve always ran Premium. Due to the stupid fuel costs I have actually filled my tank with regular octane for trips where I know I’m un weighted just doing highway miles. My mileage with cruise set @75mph as actually increased. Who woulda thought. Anyone near Salem Oregon that wants to talk to me about my truck and the tune, reach out to me and I’ll tell you what I can. I’m computer stupid so someone else will need to tune you but I’ll tell you and show you what I got. Sorry for the long post. I check in regularly and so many posts are on the fence. Just thought maybe my 2 cents would help you out, Especially if your in my neck of the woods. P.S. As much as I would like to be re-imbursed with beer for writing these positive Tune posts. I am writing this strictly from my personal happy experience. However, If I ever find myself in Kreg’s neck of the woods, I will definitely find him and bring him a 6-pack!
