How frequently are updates needed? If jumping into a KD Pro Max, is it just further fine tuning when new versions are released? Just curious how on top of updates I need to be. Imagine they make a big difference!

Whenever there are software updates that offer more settings/changes, we have the ability to improve the tune. As long as you keep an eye on this thread, you will hear about any updates. We have only had a few since we started.

Good to know this is available. $400 isn't too bad of a price.

Well, I gotta say, I'm a happy customer. Had the truck a whole week before I took the plunge but glad I did. I hated the lugging between 45-55 on the country roads around my house and the gear hunting was ridiculous on the interstate. The tune took care of both and throttle response is great!

It's really hard to believe that brand new Tacomas have these issues but they do. And no one wants to do anything to void their warranty. But the KD Max Pro + tune does fix the problems and will not affect your warranty. Toyota needs to wake up and make some changes. Glad you are enjoying your tune just like I am. Welcome to Tacoma World.

This is one of my concerns. It goes back and forth about Toyota Service Department being able to interrogate the system and determine such activities.

It would be good to see the above bolded statement in writing and backed up.

Thanks to Dave I'm in touch with Allen who covers the area of Delaware. I want to learn more than what I've seen on YouTube.

On a side note, I really don't see anything other than a delayed reaction when I step on the gas/throttle pedal. The transmission doesn't struggle to determine which gear to be in...but I live in flat-land Delaware so I haven't really done hills to grandma's house.

As any customer, of course we're going to be skeptical about any non-Toyota work done. (I know there are those who don't even trust Toyota so that's not saying much--lol) I would love to drive a Tacoma which was tuned and see if I notice a difference.

The bold statements proclaiming no warranty impact are a legitimate concern. Whether Toyota will honor a warranty claim has lots of variables. What’s the issue? Is ECM programming believed to be (or represented to be) part of the problem? Local dealer opinion, Toyota opinion, etc.

Those who flatly proclaim no warranty impact ever are being dishonest. There is no way to know.

You're probably right...but it won't be revealed until someone has a testimonial that doesn't lean in the owner's favor.

I wouldn't want to be the first to experience it...just sayin'.

It's every owner's prerogative to be cautious one way or the other...that's all I'm saying.

If the dealership suspects a tune they most certainly can perform a checksum and validate their claims. With that said, if you have an issue with your radio, they're not going to go snooping around for a tune.

You guys are right. We never know what might fail and be traceable now that everything is electronic. I suppose even a plug and play throttle controller is traceable. A lift and oversize tires might void a drivetrain warranty. And other mods can affect airbag deployment. The only way for sure to stay in warranty would be to remain completely stock.

Hey there! Had a question that I am a bit stuck on that google won't answer for a non-expert guy like myself.

Would this tune, or other taco tunes, exert greater wear on the engine? Would I be stressing any other components of the vehicle? I just got my 2022 TRD OR and am worried that installing a tune would reduce the total miles the car itself would drive in the long run. The good question is if these changes are so good, why wouldn't Toyota have implemented them already.

Super close to pulling the trigger on the Pro tune! Thanks

From the monitoring that we do, we don't have any "out of limits" readings. The wear should be the same or better.
There are multiple trucks that have been tuned for many thousands of miles with no ill effects that we have seen or heard of.
Why didn't Toyota tune it this way? Great question. I get that question all the time. I don't have an answer to that.
Get you a monitoring app and get an idea of your numbers on stock, then get the tune and compare. This will tell you what you want to know.

Appreciate the response! I figured you guys had tested it but it's good to hear tuners monitor readings on them. I was about to pull the trigger but one of my friends inserted a TON of doubt with that question thrown my way.

I have to say thank you and a big shout out to Alex @Magiriano Doekter Tuning in Calgary for the KDMax Pro tune on my 2021 Tacoma OR. Got the Regular fuel/normal throttle. Wow, what a difference! Shifts are now smooth, power is great, no more gear hunting and my mileage improved - mileage to go see him on hwy before tune was 16L/100 kms (15mpg) to 10.9L/100km (21.5mpg) at 119 kms/hr on the same hwy return. Immediate results, would highly recommend to any Taco owner...I think my truck is also now quieter as rpm's stayed around 1800 on regular cruise at 119km/hr. Alex was great!
