Paul is no longer a part of the KDMax tuning group. He is a great guy and still tunes trucks, but not with the KDMax tunes.
We now have openings for tuners in that area and in other areas that are not covered by a KDMax tuner.
PM @TWTaco if you’re interested. He will give you all the information to get started.

So coming from Ott 7.0 I was really digging how their tune responded with my Tacoma here on the Washington State Coast. It gave me great trq and better uphill power . Was really impressed all around with OTT 7.0.

Now I've ran Kdmax pro+XT over 800 miles this week and wow what a huge improvement over the pro and pro+. @PapaRee Kdmax has really hit this outta the park on this upgraded version . With OTT 7.0 I was getting very close to stock mpgs. With the new pro+XT I'm at stock mpgs with my eyes closed. All week I have been just driving with my foot , no cc. I have sport throttle settings. I really noticed that I wasn't applying much pressure to my throttle compared to OTT. Kdmax made my truck feel lighter than ever going down the hwy at 60 to 65mph. Kdmax definitely increased the power in 5th gear. I'm able to pull most of the hills on my commute without hardly any downshift to 4th, I have one steep grade on my commute and I expect a 4th gear downshift. Once I'm to the top of that steep grade bamb it shifts to 5th pretty quickly. It blows my mind how refined this version of kdmax is . I've jumped back and forth on so many tunes . Don't get me wrong I was totally impressed with Ott 7.0 , they swept me away from kdmax. Not for long kdmax proved to me that they can still show you what they are made of and to me I'm totally impressed. I'm able without a doubt be able to cruise doing 65 to 70mph and have no worries about major downshifts with the new kdmax. Really the mpg increase with kdmax blew me away. With Ott I had to kinda work to get good mpgs . Kdmax again seems a lot easier to get better or if not great mpg. Man again I'm really impressed with the new kdmax . Now I'm gonna tell little bit about my truck. I'm a 2017 four door short box, I have stock gearing, 315/75/16s, afe throttle body spacer, ripp performance coils, kn performance intake, urd cross y pipe, mrbp performance exhaust, jtl oil catch can, 200lb warn winch bumper, badland 12k winch synthetic line, Rough Country 6" lift with adjustable coils, and my weight is over 5400lbs . I'll say this with Ott I was getting close to 145 miles on a 1/4 tank. With new kdmax I'm at if not slightly over 145 miles on a quarter tank. I run premium fuel. Why? Cause you get the best performance from any of these tunes . I will say kdmax pro+XT hands down is the top dog out there for tuning your Tacoma . ONLY I say again ONLY if your running a fat kid Tacoma. Now I do know Kdmax does have available kdmax pro XT. Which I'm sure would run great on maybe a stock Tacoma . Which probably would wanna go with a lighter throttle setting . I run the sport throttle setting do to my truck being heavier. One more thing to note , kdmax pro+XT really showed me you DO NOT HAVE TO REGEAR IF YOUR TRUCK IS HEAVY.

Almost forgot to add that also yesterday on my commute home I did try cruise control and that definitely has had a big improvement. My mpg and overall behavior of the shifting has had a great improvement. In our trucks the dang cruise control has always been a pain in the rear. The updated kdmax has made better improvements to the cc.

Ahhh one more note 6th gear holds much better than before . I'm able to cruise interstate 65mph in 6th . Little hills yeah I expect truck to react and naturally downshift to 5th . Once over slight hill it goes right back to 6th gear. I really want you to know that kdmax has improved the shifting logic in this version. This tune is so much more revised.

If anyone has more questions just PM I will be happy to answer any questions.

I've been running the Kdmax pro+XT for about a week and a half (tuned it at 327 miles on the od). Started with the "Lite" throttle for a week and then switched to the "Normal". Normal is where it's at for me. Very pleased with the behavior of the truck. Best $370.00 mod you can purchase. I drive very conservatively and it just makes the truck much better.

Thanks Chris for your detailed review!

I'm glad to hear the new Pro+XT is working great on your heavier truck without a regear. I have 5.29's on my heavy ass truck and i have seen some mpg improvements both city and highway but the overall drive ability with the new Pro+XT is much improved on my truck. 5th and 6th are great on the highway.
Its nice to hear your enjoying everything we made improvements on!

Your very welcome and again thanks for making such a phenomenal product. Everytime you guys refine kdmax it makes me more happier that I didn't do a regear . Mpgs are easy to obtain within stock ranges which to me is very impressive. Again keep up the great work . I know vf tuner released some more areas for you guys to explore so there I'm sure will be a more refined version coming out in the future . Also want to note that the tune still shows great performance . Getting to 100mph is easy as pie . Before I know it I gotta slow down on the interstate. The looks I get when flying by In my inferno Tacoma are priceless. Lol

We have been getting reports from people with Adaptive/Radar Cruise control thanking us for making it better.
I personally have a 2016 Tacoma and do not have Adaptive/Radar Cruise control, so I cannot comment on how much it is improved.
We did not get new tune maps in VFtuner specific to Adaptive/Radar Cruise, but there has been lots of updates to the software.
I assume that the Adaptive Cruise Control is now able to use the general tune settings and that is what has made it better.
This is good news for everyone, and we are always happy to get good news!!

I’ve not used ACC on any of the tunes (just the regular cc which works great) but I’ll certainly try it out based on your finding above. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll say XT Sport is very refined tune.
I was warned that some folks did not like holding 5th too long, but I don't have any issues with it.
On previous version, I had issues with rough upshift to 5th . On XT upshift to 5th is much more smother. 3 to 4 upshift is seemles, same with 6th.
Slow driving in 3rd is more refined, you dont get that on and off throttle and the driving is not jerky.
The tip in is better. On Pro + there was a bit of dead pedal from the stop w/ a small amount of throttle. It seems XT eliminated that, at least for now.
MPGs are the same. Most miles I did where in town with short trips and a few freeway trips. Currently seating at solid 19 tank average. Had to run to the dump with 700 lbs in the back. Was doing 70 in 6th on long incline the entire trip. Got 19 mpgs.
No multiple misfires on downshift. TC locking/unlocking is appropriate in high gears and 4th.Tranny is not getting cooked.

Has anyone tried the ECT with the XT tune? What are the differences in shift points? I don't see any difference in shift points with ECT on my Pro + tune. Does the ECT need to be tuned separately from the ECU?

The ECT has upshift and downshift tables that can be adjusted from 0-100% throttle. We have the ECT hold gears a little longer. If you are at 0-10% throttle with light load, there is not much difference. But if you’re at 30-75% throttle with a load, it will hold the gear longer. It is made for towing and performance.
    Does that make sense?

Just got back from a run up to Stevens pass for a hike with the wife. I absolutely love the way the truck drives with this Kdmax XT tune. I really don’t know what to say that hasn’t been said already. It’s all true. I think shotgunbilly420 nailed the review.

    Hello @PapaRee
From what I hear the tune is not able to modify the shift points while in adaptive cruise control? Any chance that will change or did Toyota lock us out of changing that?
