I’ve got a 2019 DCSB OR AT with 33/12.5 just hit 18k miles. Been thinking about an OV tune until I saw this. What is the biggest difference in the two and should I expect any changes in MPG? Currently getting around 15 in town and drops to 12-13 on the highway. I’m located in Charlotte NC. Thanks!

The tune completely wakes your truck up! From power delivery, Throttle response, Smooth predictable shifting. We dont guarentee improved MPG's but most customers report 1.5 to 3 MPG's improvement. Read the many reviews for yourself.

The difference is substantial. Read through this thread to see how individuals compare KDMAX to OV2.0 (there’s a lot of reviews). Hell, read up on the reviews on his tunes that lead up to KDMAX. Those reviews were glowing and those tunes are marginalized by KDMAX.

    My opinion is
    1) Shifting is incredibly smooth.
    2) FEELS like theres more torque. There may in fact be more... somebody will dyno this tune for sure.
    3) Many (myself included) are getting better fuel economy
    4) The shift points are more in line with driver’s expectation.
    5) Driving characteristics are very consistent. Haven’t had any scenario where the truck didn’t do exactly what I thought it would do as in shifting, TC lock up, etc.
    5) Kreg is crazy with his customer service/support

Get logging going. If they are going to tailor the tune for your truck, at least they need to know some minimal information: gear, speed, load, throttle.

What do I need to get to do logging? I'm willing to provide whatever is necessary to assist with troubleshooting.

Does anyone have video showing the installation process? I am in Longview Texas, so there isn’t anyone close to do the tune for me. Thanks!

The instructions from OVTune are pretty self explanatory, you just use the file that you get for the KDMax instead. When it comes down to it we can help you if you have any questions. I had to do an extra step (ECU TSB update) which was why I had issues at first. But after that it was easy.

I have purchased KDMax and the VF Tuner package and will be attempting to flash my ECU for the 1st time. After researching I put the following instructions together.

Can somebody with knowledge confirm this process and answer the following questions regarding the VF Tuner "Master Key"...

How is the Master Key received?
If it is via email, is this triggered on the vftuner order?
How long is it to receive after placing the vftuner order (I have checked my span folder)?

    1. Load VF Tuner program

    a. Upon completion a “vf ECU calibration suite on-line registration” pop-up window opens

    b. The registration process requires a “Master Key” which is provided by VF Tune

    2. Install Drivers

    a. VFtuner -> Help -> Driver Installation

    3. Unzip the KDmax tune file and copy the desired .vft tune files to

    a. c:\program files (x86)\vf tuner\tacoma

    4. Read ECU

    a. Internet connection to laptop required

    b. Connect laptop to vehicle thru OBDII port

    c. Press start button twice w/o foot on brake (do not start motor)

    d. VFtuner -> Flash ECU -> Read ECU

    e. The program will ask if you want to license the vehicle (4 credits required)

    5. Flash ECM with KDmax tune

    a. VFtuner -> Flash ECU -> Select Calibration File -> Navigate to desired file and select Open -> Calibrate ECM

    b. Note: This process cannot be interrupted

    c. VFtuner will prompt “Flashing Complete”

    d. Start vehicle

you should get an email from Matt with the master key. I got mine the day my package was delivered. Check spam folder or any-other junk mail spots.

Has anyone installed the tune using a Mac and parallels or bootcamp? I’m sure it seems weird but I only have Macs...

So I've only had the tune in 2 days, overall very impressed but I have a question. When I leave the hotel I have a couple miles to the nearest Tim Hortons, the speed limit is 25mph as it's through town, at that speed the throttle is like an off/on switch. Is this something that will smooth out as I get some miles on? I flashed the LT tune thinking it was the "calmer" version, is that correct?

I travel weekly for work so the majority of the miles I put on are on the highway, usually 300-400 on Monday and again on Friday. Mid week is from the hotel to the customer, short trips.

I did it. Make sure you update your Mac to the latest software. I didn't and took me way to long to figure out why bootcamp wouldn't install. Once it's installed it's very easy to tune your truck.

Yeah. Works fine. Just run through bootcamp assistant then everything functions just fine. When you reboot, hold the option key and you can select to boot macOS or windows.

Phone based OBD apps are very popular and cheap. You can get Blue Tooth adapter and Toyota PIDs for less than $30.

I had the same situation with my KDMax LT at sustained low speed. It would jump 200 rpm and felt just like an on/off switch. I asked @PapaRee to smooth that out and he did. Give him a shout, he’ll make it so you’re happy.
