I had Pro and now have Pro XT and have not experienced an aggressive 1-2 shift in stop and go with either tune. Now if I get on it, which I love to do, yes the shift firms up nicely.

I’m new to Toyota tuning but I assume you need data logs from a couple of pulls on the truck to edit the base file sent? Then you send a revision on the tune file back?

Or do Toyota tuners just do the one and done base tune file?

We have gotten it dialed in already.
We just need your year truck, trans- auto or manual, gears- stock or custom, battery- Regular or AGM.
After that, you decide on your throttle choice- Lite, Normal, or Sport.

What if I change my gearing down the road and need a revision? Is it another $300?

I just flashed from OV Tune 2.0 to the KDMax Pro +XT with the normal throttle. I can't say enough good things about PapaRee for walking me through the process after I purchased VF Tuner.

I haven't put more than 50 miles on my truck since, but the throttle feels better and more consistent. That was my biggest complaint with my truck - I am not looking for any huge power increases, just a predictable throttle. On the stock tune, during an upshift it randomly would feel like the engine injested a wet rag after getting back on the gas (my truck is a manual) and would hesitate/surge every once in a while. The OV Tune reduced those feelings significantly but they were still there at times. This tune seems to help it even more. I'm really looking forward to seeing what my mileage will be. My truck on mostly highway driving struggles to get above 17mpg even when I drive conservatively.

I was finally was able to take the truck on the highway for a little jaunt with rolling prairie hills. With a decent headwind, I was getting 11.3 L/100km (20.8 mpg) and then on the way back with the tail wind, I managed 9.4 L/100km (25 mpg) which was a nice surprise. I liked that the truck was able to crest little hills without downshifting, even driving into the wind. My trip went through a valley and on the way up, I went into 4th for a brief moment but the truck pulled very strong in 5th and I was able to maintain speed without hearing the engine scream.

Tune or no tune, this truck likes to be around that 100-110 km/h (62-68 MPH) mark. Any faster, and fuel mileage will suffer greatly, it seems. For this trip, I had it locked in at 103 km/h (lots of RCMP on the highways on weekends) and was very impressed.

Truck: 2020 OR Premium 4x4 DCSB
Mods: Bone stock with OEM tires at 37 PSI
    Tune: KDMAX Pro (non-XT)
Weight: Just an ARE topper and my fat ass totaling about 365 lb

Yes, we can set the shifting in ECT.
They are set now to hold gears a little longer than Drive.
I had one guy who wanted "no 6th gear" in ECT.

I was gonna wait a couple weeks before writing about the tune, but it's been about a week and I did a long round road trip over the weekend and have been through my first tank of gas.

Went from stock, to KDMax pro XT. First I tried normal throttle but switched to lite the same day, I thought it was a little too jumpy on my test drive, I probably could have gotten used to it but the Taco is a truck to me that I want to be comfortable not race down the streets or anything.

I came from a tuned WRX to the Tacoma so it ain't like that, but I love the tune - the Tacoma is rated at like 270hp/270ft lb torque which seemed like decent numbers to me for a midsize truck but it always felt like a tiny 4 banger pulling the thing especially the way it would roar down to 2nd/3rd gear to go up a 2 degree incline.

The tune brings the truck to where I'd expect it to be on paper and I love it, not a sports car obviously and it doesn't make it feel like a V8 or anything, but I can actually press the gas and move when I want to. It's most noticable to me in the low end of the RPM spectrum especially starting from a stop. The shifting is smooth and it seems to use all of the gears more rather than skipping them.

It makes me feel so much better about purchasing the truck to begin with, I had stage1+ on my WRX and the tune on that made a huge difference - but the difference with the Tacoma tune vs stock is much more significant than the WRX tune was. Different categories obviously, but I am impressed by how much was able to be gained from the tune on the Tacoma.

I actually look forward to getting in the truck and taking a trip now, highly recommend the KDMax for anyone thinking about it.

Ok so I have tried OTT 8.0 Kdmax pro+XT and now the newest OTT. IMO Kdmax for the win. Just way smoother, easier to hold speed with lite throttle, lite throttle is butter smooth. Holds gears going uphill instead of up shifts then back down. I was sent the new nexus black something tune and I really don’t even want to try it. I have my tune. JMO and works for my truck and my driving style. Truck is stock height, stock 16 tires no added weight really. Just works.

Oh man it’s just way better than the new OTT. I like the lite throttle and I watch the fuel mileage bar when I drive. The OTT tune I had to hold the throttle to keep speed and the mileage bar would be @75% or less but with Kdmax I can hold speed and the mileage bar will be at about 90% or better. The way Kdmax holds gear up hill is great and I like the downshift going down hill. I wish I was better at writing my experience but I do the best I can.
