    Got to do another KDMax tune yesterday for a wonderful man who was familiar with KD to begin with. Beautiful truck (loved that it was a manual) and awesome guy to talk to. Very knowledgeable. [​IMG]

    I don't know if you've added any weight, but I am getting 23 mpg on the highway. Try making sure you get about the same amount of gas in each time, and figure your mileage yourself. I find the mileage counter on the truck is not accurate on some tanks. Mine did not even reset after fueling last week. If it isn't better then I would have your tuner flash it again.

    I'll bet he was happy. The 4 cyl. are really miserable to drive with the automatic. I hope he comments after a couple of weeks. Every 4 cyl owner should jump on this as soon as possible.

    I was the fortunate one to get tuned today by Kaleb with KDMAX Pro+XT. The truck has great throttle response, holds gears like it should, acceleration feels much more crisp and linear and MPG seems to be improved. I got around 23 on the way home from where we met to home which was about 45 miles with hills and lots of traffic. Before the tune the truck would immediately downshift to go up hills but after the tune it held the gear and allowed for more throttle to propel it up the hill. This was probably my biggest complaint, among others, with the stock tune. All in all I am very happy with the results!

    I think it may be up to the tuner, but I paid $400 and it was worth every penny. I now prefer to drive my Tacoma over our Highlander. The smoother shifts and eliminating throttle lag are great benefits.

    Depends on the person doing the tune. Most are in the $400-$450 range for Tacomas. But I think a few guys charge $500-$550.

    The 2020+ 4Runner costs more because the software requires more than double the credits to tune it (about $100-150 more)

    A tuned 4Runner would last for years and be a great vehicle. Isn't that one of the few vehicles still being made in Japan?

    I would try to reset Engine LVs using Techstream software and then reflash the tune.
    I had a similar problem on my trip a month ago . I barely broke 18 mpg. Howeve, my truck was loaded , but still on the flat stretches and 60 mph mpg would not come up.
    I just came from the trip to Oregon. I drove 70-75 one way +driving around and settled at 21.6. On the way back, the road conditons allowed 75-80 and I stayed in left lane most of the time. Ended up with 20 mpg on the rising terrain and some head on wind.
    This time mpg did recover on flat stretches even doing higher speeds.

    Maybe it's time we formed a group and tried to get our money back from Toyota. Or if we complain more loudly, they will fix their problems. Might be a good time to sell this tune to Toyota. I'm afraid that we haven't complained loudly enough and these issues will continue on the new truck. Has anyone read if they are going to use the same engine and transmission?
