Just adding to the above post by Alex re the Edmonton Tuning. My truck is a 2013 auto DCLB with 4.56 gears. I pull a small travel trailer (Geo Pro 12srk) that weighs about 2000 pounds but has some good frontal area. I did a trip to the southern US this spring and was running about 14 mpg (Imperial Gallon) on regular 87 octane gas. I did a test on the way home and used 91 octane and was getting around 16 mpg, but was always struggling at speeds over 60 MPH. So octane for me made a difference while towing at least for fuel mileage - this was over 5000 miles so a pretty good test. This was on the stock tune.

But still looking for a bit more I contacted Alex while I was still on my way home after reading about KDMax and he let me drop by his home and installed the tune. I then drove 3 hours to my home and can report that I was now able to do 70 mph comfortably (still a taco pulling a trailer so keep your expectations reasonable) and my fuel mileage return was 17 mpg. I'm pretty pleased with that to get a 1 mpg increase at a higher speed. This is all on 91 octane though - I haven't done any tests on 87. I also have driven the taco at 70 on the highway without towing and pulled a respectable 20 mpg - previously I would have been around 18. Still testing it as I don't get on the highway much but the early results are promising. (US gallon is a bit smaller than Imperial gallon so numbers would be somewhat lower for south of the border folks)

Around the city I haven't seen a noticeable change in fuel mileage. I attribute this to what appears to be a surge in acceleration about 20 mph - it appears the throttle plates suddenly open and there is a dump in fuel which changes the acceleration characteristics of the truck. Fun little surge but it surprised me the first time, but likely that's what's limiting around town fuel economy. Perhaps future tunes might get this a bit more linear in nature - I'm not a tuner so it's a question to those in the know.

Obviously as you all know each truck is different - beyond the 4.56 gears I have a 3 inch lift, 275/75/17 tires, full front and rear bumpers, and lots of gear... a bit more pork than the average Taco perhaps. So I can't say how a stock truck or differently modified truck would do. Hope this helps someone in the 2nd gen world who is considering the tune. I'm happy with the tune, but can't help but hope a bit more work goes into 2nd Gen tuning to see if there is a bit more in there :)

just an update on the return trip. Averaged 23.8 mpg on the return trip. So funny to fill up and see 355 distance to empty! Very impressed with the mpg improvement and overall drivability.

Since your original tune, we have updated the 2nd gen tune. I talked to Alex and he now has the new files for your truck.
The throttle is more linear along with the power.
You won't be disappointed with the improvements!

    none ):
I have a quick question, I got the recent update in early June and now, I notice that the truck just does not behave like it used to when I recently got the tune. (has not gone to the dealership)

Does tunes just deteriorate with time until another update comes out? Throttle works great, but it takes a bit to shift up or to pass somebody on the high way.. 21 OR with 23k miles.

    thanks!

Thanks PapaRee - appreciate it. I've always said about the stock Taco that I could live with the power if it had good fuel economy OR I could live with the fuel economy if it had good power... but it never met either need LOL. I'm glad to see you guys working to bridge that gap between power and fuel mileage.

Only if you downloaded porn from unreliable sources with it.. must be a virus...

Lol, jk, no, the tune doesn't "deteriorate " over time, it "settles" within 1-2 tanks of gas.
If you don't have any warning lights 9n your dashboard you probably just got very used to it.
Also, if you had been wheeling it hard, I'd check the air filter, it might be dirty .
Otherwise, contact your local tuner and ask to return to stock briefly so you can feel the difference.

Most of my clients try different tips, and then choose the Normal throttle as Sport might feel too touchy at first.
Then a few weeks later they ask for more power..so I put them in Sport.

Another question. Is there someone else driving your truck ?
My kids VW MK4 has a weird transmission relearn, and, while my son drives it like he stole it, but my daughter takes 10 minutes to pull out 9f the driveway(seriously, it drives me insane) and snail drives it (she's half Asian, no surprise there, she's got the patience of a Buddhist monk).
Now, I also drive very aggressively (don't ask me why)..
I like the way the VW MK4 behaves if I happen to drive it after my son, it's pretty preppy, but for whatever reason, if my daughter was the last one to drive it, it feels like the ebrake has locked on...
It's their transmission relearn., they're notoriously known for it.

When I saw your earlier post, the first thing I did was check out the website. Looks (as Arte Johnson used to say) verrrrrrry innnnnteresting. Just seeing this much makes me think this has potential.

I felt the same, and now I've seen the results on a stock tune. It's well worth exploring for what we can do with it from there!

It is nice that the KDMax-Pro+XT tune is producing improved MPG's.
I am consistently getting 17mpg with city driving back and forth to work and picking up the kids.
I used to get 16mpg consistently on the last version of KDMax.

We are continually growing and adding support for more vehicles.

I’m not towing all the time but I do tow my 6x10 enclosed trailer.
Is there an ideal tune for towing or do they all work with towing fairly well.
    2016 4x4 Sport automatic.
Tired of the shifting on the highway even without towing.
I tow in S4 with ECT on.
