Over the past 2 years, the KDMax-Pro Tuning Group has used the Ovtune and Vftuner software to improve the stock Toyota tune. We were able to update/upgrade the tune based on customer feedback, personal testing, Dyno testing, and monitoring during all driving conditions (2wd, 4wd, hwy, city, Cruise Control, low speed, high speed, heavy/modified trucks, stock trucks, Manual, Auto, etc.)
Our main concern has always been drivability while increasing Hp, Torque, and MPGs.
Our tune will give you predictable/smooth shifting, linear/aggressive throttle, improved Cruise Control, increased low end torque, and increased HP.
I hope this information helps you!
I am confident that you won’t be disappointed!

Artie @blksubykid came by this afternoon with his 2013 4x 4Runner. This rig is a beast. Flashed to him the KDMAX-Pro+XT. After his test drive he was very happy. He felt the response and added power and the much smoother shifting. Artie will be heading out on a big trip and will post a review when he returns.
It was good meeting you Artie You did an excellent build job on your 4Runner.

@TacoRancher, I think it is more than fair to state that KDMAX Pro based tunes have never been pushing any limits of these trucks nor is there ever an intention to. Considering the main goals are to build on the OVTune base and provide significant acceleration usability and predictable/smooth shifting on those counts there's no Cons. With over 70K of hard hitting tuned miles on my owner truck and the inspection and maintenance I've performed to date I have no concerns on what's begin done and how it's delivered.

As for dynos I just had my truck on the dyno last Sat and certainly confirmed the expected known gains but frankly running at wide open throttle in 1-gear to see what max HP/torque is made at 5500+ RPM is not really what these tunes are trying to target. While a competitor might state how they produce X on their dyno tunes and we only produce Y we all know all factors matter. The dyno is great to validate general looses/gains within it's parameters but it sure does not align to how I personally drive.

i think @PapaRee provide some additional background but at some point some information will not be shared. I just know I would not tune my truck, let alone anyone else's, if I had any concerns at all. The only issues with the HPFP I've seen are with Toyota's recall for newer years....my '16 is at 110K now and she's a joy to drive with KDMAX Pro+XT.

I am curious where the competitive tunes have this information shared publicly relating to ignition/fueling/ATK cycles. Like many of the tuning parameters I'd think we would all fall in the safe, acceptable, and similar settings.

I've upgraded several folks on older KDMAX Pro variants and can tell you that 100% of the feedback is how improved and smother the power delivery is and that there is absolutely driver noticeable pull through the gearing for both AT/MT owners. Anyone who is on a prior version is missing out from the best ever offering out there.

Very well put. These tunes are designed to improve drivability for the average Tacoma owner, and they do that. I'm sure if you were tuning for racing or truck pulling, there is a lot more that could be done, with this engine. But they are such a huge improvement over stock tunes and allow the average owner to enjoy their trucks much more in daily driving. I was avoiding driving my new truck, until I found the KD Max tune on this forum. Now I take my truck everywhere I go, as it shifts smoothly, at the right speeds, with no throttle lag, and gets good gas mileage. I am now getting over 23 mph on highway trips. Thanks again to KD Max Tuning.

There is no TSB for 04a62, but if you had a replacement ECU from the dealership and got 04a62, we can make you a KDMax-Pro+XT tune pack. Just PM me.

A bit sideways here, but, how did you acquire that calibration ID. Update? New ECU? Tks.

I had VF and loved it. Tried to check which tune I was running (eco or sporty) and the program froze. Turns out I was using the software from when they were OV, and they had disabled that software somehow, causing it to lock up when it was used. It fried my ECU. Toyota replaced it under warranty. Now my shifting sucks again.

So finally flashed to the KDMax pro+xt. Did a 25 mile first trip. Felt good no gear hunting. Included a 8% hill climb. Kept at 35 mph. Stayed in gear. Can’t wait to put a couple tank through it.
    Thanks @wahoobie

Love the knowledge and enthusiasm of the tuning community. I’m definitely sold. Now if my truck would just arrive at my dealership! It’s been delayed over and over. Thinking I need to get through the break in period before I tune her and lay into the gas pedal.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
But that also means you appreciate the improvements more. I found this tune around Christmas time last year, took until about a month and a half ago to finally get it done. I have a new 5yo truck! The change is amazing.
