I have personally updated a lot of people from VR to KDMax. Every single one of them has been surprised how much better the KDMax tune is. Get KDMax, you will not regret it.

Received my kdmax 9.0 tune today. I recently purchased my 2019 Tacoma used and had a suspicion that it had been tuned at some point. After driving 2.5 hours home today with the new tune I believe my suspicions were correct. I don’t notice much difference in how it drives other than low end driving around town. It feels like it pulls better from a start. Shifting and everything else feel about the same. I opted for the lite throttle as it seems people are switching to that and enjoying it. I did try normal with the tuner and didn’t like how responsive the throttle was. I checked with kdmax and ott prior to my tune and they have no record of it being tuned. I also checked with vftuner directly and nothing. I didn’t have any gear hunting issues or really any complaints prior but figured what the hell I’ll try it. Im not disappointed in the tune in any way, but I don’t feel I truly experience many of the benefits of it. My truck has a lift and 285/75/16 tires on it and since it never hear hunted before I always figured it was tuned and I truly believe it was.

@98tacojunky did your tuner has to unlock your ECU VIN? If he did that’s an indication it possibility wasn’t tuned or there’s the possibility it was tuned before registration was required?

I believe so but I’m not 100% sure. He asked me in the beginning if it was tuned and I said as far as I know, no. He didn’t say anything during the process to indicate he had any suspicions once he was programming so I assume everything looked normal to him.

    Oh man…
Rev hang is DRASTICALLY reduced with the tune. With the 9.0 I’m even shifting earlier because of the increased low end torque. Smooth as can be.

I went out Saturday after my post and paid a lot more attention to it and I agree. Not really any rev hang and I was shifting as fast as possible while accelerating as fast as possible and I have a short shifter. It was smooth as silk!!!

I have about 2000 miles on the kdmax pro + tune. Short story is that I like it better than stock and the previous version of the tune. I gave a bit more of a review on post #27 of my build thread. (It's in my sig)

Not bad for winter fuel and new tune is rocking the mpgs top notch. I still had a bit more fuel so definitely see 400mi a tank

Urgh. I just ordered 488 gears because I rarely see 6th on the highway and on inclines it’ll rev 3500 rpm.

Running the xt version with sport throttle. Now I’m wondering if I update to version 9 with lite throttle if it’ll cure my problems before spending 4k on gears. Running 33’s and stump bumper/winch.

if only. I use Alex out of Calgary (which is 3hrs 1 way for me). I was thinking it might be worth the trip though before dropping gear $$. Appreciate the offer!
