KDMax-Pro Tuning--NOW YotaWerx Tuning

Sorry if this has already been discussed- Have any 2016+ 2.7 liter four cylinders had the new 9.0 tune? Results? Thanks for any replies.

 

The tune files are available. Just haven’t heard of anyone updating yet.
Just to clarify— the KDMax-Pro-9.0 is available for the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 Tacoma 2.7L 4cylinder.

Insanely easy process! Big shoutout to @wahoobie (Chris) for the completely painless process. I opted to flash the lite file and I don't think I am even going to bother trying any of the others. The truck drives MUCH better than it did from the factory. I am quite glad I opted for this and if you need a remote option, Chris is great to work with!

The tune has actually made the truck fully enjoyable to drive. I stuck with the lite throttle knowing that ECT PWR gives it the sport throttle when engaged.

I was not impressed with how far I had to push the throttle and watch this truck go no where. Then when you need to move, you have to push it down and watch it jump into 4k+ Rpm’s to get moving. I immediately upon leaving my driveway noticed the difference which was awesome. It holds your desired speed without having to hold the pedal down as much and it pulls at WOT much better. Looking forward to the next 500 miles to allow the tune to fully integrate. I’ll make sure to post again once I hit that mileage over the next week or 2.

Quick question about engine mods with the tune. Anyone try port/polishing the throttle body and manifolds with the tune installed?

 

Just cleaning every 60k here.

 

There are a few people tuned with a manifold spacer. You will be fine with a port/polished throttle body or manifold. But I don’t think it’s worth the effort. The tune is the best option for the improvements.

 

Well, after 3.5 years of watching the TW madness I guess this is a good subject for my first post.

I had the pleasure of meeting @C41n in Portland and received the latest tune. As many have commented, it really does change the personality of the truck.
I'm driving a 2016 TRD Off-road, AT, on 33's and the ECU had never been updated. Until yesterday I had always driven with the transmission in S-mode because using D was simply un-bearable. There is now usable power between 2K and 4K and all the gear hunting is simply gone.
I went with the "Normal" throttle and it is a bit sensitive but not in a bad way and I'm quickly becoming accustomed to it. I can see, however, that driving in work boots will be a neck breaker until I'm used to it..

All in all a great experience! For the money, it's truly the best mod you can do to a 3rd Gen., IMHO.

It was great to meet you yesterday. I am glad you are loving the tune! I am sure it will make the scout camper much more fun to daily when you pick it up. If you decide you want to try the lite throttle, hit me up and I will get you taken care of.

All I can say is WOW to KDMAX PRO 9.0 and @Phich Maryland Tacoma Tunes. Chris tuned my 2021 stock Taco and it’s like driving a different truck. Chris first set it up with the normal throttle tip in and I didn’t like the jerky throttle. So he changed it to Lite throttle which is what he recommended in the first place and that’s what I liked. The tip in is still better then stock. No more gear hunting, no more dead throttle and better low end torque. It’s well worth the money.

 

Corey stopped by on the 11th with his 18 build. Put him on the 9.0 and he’s loving it! Awesome truck and great guy. Spent another hour hanging out and talking trucks and shop.

One of the best things about tuning is getting the opportunity to meet greatpeople around us that we probably wouldn’t have had the chance to meet otherwise!
