KDMax-Pro Tuning--NOW YotaWerx Tuning

Just got back from getting tuned by @Toy_taco_trd and could notice the difference before I hit 2nd gear! Much more responsive and enjoyable to drive. This should be the first upgrade for anyone.

I'm planning on getting a 4Runner sometime in the future, so I'll be hitting my tuner up soon.
If it does for the 4Runner what it does for my Tacoma, it'll be money well spent.

Tuned the first 2023 4Runner today. Solar Octane Pro. The owner- Troy was happy with the improvements. SSO (Southern Style OffRoad) in Baton Rouge was doing his sliders and front bumper. They called with the referral. Customer lives in Georgia near Rich @Stormpeacock, so he’ll have support when he gets home.

 

Met up with Christopher @Chris_31 with his 2016 2.7 AT Access cab in Pomona this morning. Had a perfect break in the rain to get him flashed to Pro-9.0.
Christopher went on a test drive with his brother. They were both really happy with all the improvements the tune adds. Christopher had that Big KDMAX "SMILE" on his face!
It was nice meeting you both enjoy the Pro-9.0 Christopher. Let us know how your enjoying the Pro-9.0 after you get some miles in.

I just want to thank Alex (@Magiriano) for installing a great new tune in my truck.
He installed the KD Max Pro tune last year and I thought that was the cats ass but I heard about the KD Max 9.0 tune and had to see if the hype was real. Well, so far I haven't noticed any drastic changes like the first tune offered but KD Max 9.0 seems to offer a more polished version of its previous tune with the added bonus of the XT. Super slick shifting without the gear hunting drama.
I really look forward to putting on the miles and forgetting how bad the stock truck behaved.
(Toyota should be ashamed)

@Madmax702 I likewise live in Vegas and am considering a tune. Haven’t built my rig up as of yet (still contemplating as it’s 2WD) but want to tune it for better performance as it’s my daily. Looking to do exhaust and intake on it.

 

Your stock intake is already a CAI.
Save your money, unless you wanna go with TRD strictly for the looks and a bit of deeper sound, I did. No real gains observed. I also added the AFE TBS(Throttle Body Spacer) on both my Tacoma and now on my 4Runner.
The gains are debatable but for me as a tuner, they're tax write offs under R&D, and, fuel mileage got a little better by about 0.4L/100 km, nothing to write home about, it'll take .e several years to see a return on my investment at the rate I drive.

You can also mod your stock air intake to add the benefits of the TRD box on a budget, there's a thread in here somewhere.
And, definitely avoid K&N as it sucks air, hot air, from the engine bay.
Friends don't let friends buy K&N.

Now if you're considering an Anderson intake manifold spacer https://www.aesinnovate.com/ that's a different thing all together and the reviews are great for added low end torque together with the KDMaxPRO 9.0 tune that supports it.
I'm waiting for one for my 4Runner, i haven't personally had it on my vehicles, but, on my diesels, I've had a similar set up from GDP that lowered my EGT's by 2-300F so I'm eager to try it and post an unbiased review for our Toyota community.

I won't comment on the exhaust, as on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport Premium i had the stock exhaust, and my 2022 4Runner TRD PRO came with the TRD Exhaust which is a bit louder than I hoped.

If you want a new CAI which actually improves performance, Injen has it. InJen CAI has an added intake from above the radiator.

 

That's probably the next best thing to a snorkel, which I actually ordered but I won't be able to install until spring.

 

I added this intake a while back as I found them on sale for $329 shipped so I considered it a steal. Id like to think it helped out with more top end power and easier throttle. Worthwhile easy mod for sure.

 

Thank you, Alex. Your thoughts are super informative. I have also considered a throttle body spacer for the added performance. When I say performance (ie spacer, exhaust, intake) I am looking for both added fuel efficiency but also to account for the addition of weight due to a modified overland build out. Again, as my TRD Sport is a 2WD, I am still holding out on the build in case I decide to trade up. The improved tuning however would be a go ahead.
