Two years. Fabulous for towing. Or carrying heavy loads. Almost zero squat loaded.

All you MT drivers that are still wondering if a KDMAX tune can really help you? Here’s John’s testimony right as he starts his test drive.

He has a 6” lift on 35’s no gear change. He running Sport + 20 throttle.

I have finally updated to Pro 9.0 AGM for my '21 AT truck. I appreciate that some of the jolt was tamed from a dead stop, or when throttle is let off and reapplied while rolling. The previous tune always had a sudden jerk that was slightly unnerving. The tune seems to hold the gear longer than previous. Which isn't my favorite but the reality this engine needs to rev higher to get the performance the truck deserves.

It has been awhile since I've used a stock tune so it's hard to remember how bad it was.

I currently have 21 V6 with KDMAX PRO 9.0. Going to tow an aluminum 6x10 utility trailer with 300lbs of lumber and about 350lbs in the bed. I’ll be using the ECT when towing. Is it recommended to use D or S4, S5 or S6? Will be on hilly highway 65mph posted.

S4 95% of the time. S5 on long downhills. I tow 5100 lbs.

That’s a pretty light load. You should be good with S5.

My rule of thumb for towing… if the truck cannot hold 5th gear, where you would normally expect it to, just give in and go to S4.

anyone have a link to a thread, site, or video thats actually pretty educational concerning gear choice and trans temp correlations, towing or not? I'm not scared to look for myself, and definitely have been, but haven't had much luck weeding through the typical TW mess. Admittedly my knowledge of transmission workings and torque converters is pretty non-existent. I've followed the recommendation of others towing in S4 when the truck would've happily stayed in 5th or 6th, and I'm just not sure of the WHY. Seems like high RPMs for long extended times in 4th when the truck can hold lower gears is counterproductive, but I'm sure there's some reasoning I'm missing. No need to completely go off subject here and changing topics, but if anyone has a link to somewhere else, I'd happily follow it.

Like Paul said, that is not a heavy load. You should be fine in Drive or S5.
I haul a 4wheeler that is 500-600 pounds and I don't even feel it in Drive.

Helped another Tacoma owner with his frustration with the erratic shifting in his 2023 Tacoma. We actually removed a pedal commander from his truck, and replaced it with the KDMax tune. He kept the PC on Sport mode, and was still impressed with the throttle response of the "Normal" tune, even rolling on his 33's. More importantly, the tune addressed all of his concerns about the shifting! It's so rewarding being able to share this tune experience with other Tacoma owners!

I'm not sure what version of KDMax I have but maybe it was 6 or 7. I got upgraded from basic to pro about a year ago. Overall, it's been great.

I just noticed it's up to version 9. What has changed and should we try and keep it up to date?

Each update has improved throttle, improved shifting- smoother, more power. Just an overall better driving experience.

Thanks. I guess it would make sense that things improve some otherwise why bother fiddling with it. That said, is there a set it and forget it point? I'm not sure it's realistic to keep chasing upgrades for the next 10+ years I plan to keep this. My current version is certainly fine, but I hate the idea of missing out.

It’s well worth the price of upgrade to go to 9.0 especially from the Pro version. You will immediately tell the difference in performance, smoothness, and the low end torque.
