Nothing about the tune is changing engine compression the way a forced induction mod would, so I don't think the tune adds any additional need (or lack thereof, depending on who you ask) for a catch can.

I run one and it gets emptied every oil change along with all the other normal maintenance stuff. A decent amount of oil builds up and all of that would otherwise be getting dumped back into the intake. I would recommend a catch for even a stock truck as all motors have some amount of blow by.

Thanks. That's kind of been my mentality. Most of the vids Ive watched kind of make me want one.

    Thanks for response.

I'm not really sure which is why I was asking. This is a heavily avoided question for some reason. I guess it's a personal opinion in which there is no crystal clear answer.

You still have NA engine, the tune have a correct PI/DI split . Ware and tear of your hardware could be a difference

Catch can is ok if you don’t forget to empty it before going off roading . I read on this forum somewhere wherein someone had his engine hydro-locked as a huge amount of oil got dumped while navigating an incline. He forgot to dump the oil from the can prior.
As for the tune, if you by logic, tunes (KDMax etc ) generally prevent sudden downshift from 6th gear to 3rd or 4th multiple times . It’s better on the engine rpm wise ( so lesser oil dumped) so a tune is better . just a thought .plus you’ll enjoy driving it . Of course these are all speculations and should be taken like a grain of salt . Happy Friday everyone :D

A catch can actually helps to prevent hydro-lock issue but the can is only so big. That motor would have locked up with or without the can.

I did a remote KDMax 9.0 a few months ago and I do enjoy driving the truck more. ;)

    Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Updated to 10.0 from 9.0. I have 5.29 gears and 33's. Previously was running a custom tune with lower shift points due to my drive to work as it got better MPG than the standard tune. I figured I'd try the standard 10.0 tune. Very impressed with the updated standard tune! MPG is about the same now with 10.0 as my custom 9.0 tune, but drives so much better! I started out with the Lite throttle, but have since gone to the normal throttle. Having 5.29 gears, it used to be a little too jumpy from a start on the normal throttle for my liking. This new tune is so smooth in all aspects. I drove from Durango to Leadville loaded up with two dirt bikes, 10 gallons of water, bunch of camping equipment, firewood, etc. Round trip hand calculated mpg was 20.8. Shift points are phenomenal to where you don't have to think about pedal input with all the steep grades. Just zone out and go!

Smooth shifting, bump in power from 9.0 and drivability of this tune are the main standouts to me. Customer service has always been top notch from PapaRee. Quick responses and has always been willing to work with me for custom tunes. He even sent my old custom settings for the 10.0, but I won't even be loading that tune anymore as the standard tune is that good! Stoked with the progress of KDMAX. I started out when they were on 4.0!

I am terrible at reviews, but I have been a customer of Kreg's for a long time and his amazing customer services makes me feel like I should say something... So, here goes.

After my update to 10, I have run a few tanks of gas through it and what I can say is I find myself not really thinking about it anymore. It drives great. I realize I get where I'm going and never once did I think, "well that was a weird shift" or anything of the sort. It drive great and I love that it doesn't do anything anymore that draws my attention to it. I can't recommend it, or Kreg enough.

    Thank you @PapaRee !!
