So curious what’s the deal right now what tune available is really best for power kd10.0 or the OTT.

What’s the word on the street I don’t care about Dyno numbers in particular

I’m currently on the kdmax 10.0 btw enjoy it highly too*

Full disclosure: I am a KDMax tuner.

If you look around you can find countless discussions where people debate this very topic. The simple truth is, they are both great tunes and the vast majority of people end up loving the first one they try and look no further. The important thing is that you are happy with your truck! Any tune is better than the stock tune on a 3rd gen Tacoma.

KDMax is the oldest and most refined tune available for Tacomas IMHO. KDMax is built from the ground up to be a driveability tune. KDMax tuners are Toyota owners first and foremost just like you. KDMax does not chase the most power possible at any cost. Our tune is built to improve your daily experience driving your truck. More smiles per mile is our goal!

With our tune you will get a overall more enjoyable truck to drive while still while still maintaining Toyota's legendary reliability. Our tune does provide a significant gain to HP and TQ, while smoothing out the power throughout the entire power band. The vast majority of customers report either a gain of 1-2 MPG or the same as stock.

Perhaps most importantly the KDMax network of tuners prides ourselves on top notch customer service. We believe in good old fashion values. Provide a quality product, with excellent customer service and the rest will come. Our network of tuners provides after the sale customer support. If you have any questions or concerns after your tune is complete, we are here to help.

Yep, I agree. Best thing I ever did for my truck, hands down.
@PapaRee and his team have worked magic IMHO.

Absolutely worth the time and effort to get it tuned.

I want to get this tune but curious about emissions in Ca. Have you had your truck smogged yet. Pass or fail?

if anyone can give me some more updated information that’ll be great. I want to get my truck tuned. My biggest concern is passing emissions. Has anyone recently had their truck smogged with the tune? What were you results?
    Thank you

My truck is registered in Julian CA 92036
Julian residents don't have to smog their vehicles, I'll be moving to TEXAS maybe next year and I'll have to smog it. I'll find out then.
I'm sure I'll have to put some of the stock parts back on I don't know if the tune will effect the smog I saw the other thread where his tune caused him to fail so I'm curious.

Driving has a bunch to do with your MPG so does where your driving, me going to work on my 17 mile drive I only get 19MPG to work and 17-18 going home.
But I did not buy a under powered pickup and put heavy tires on it in the hopes of good MPGs. I drive my mini cooper if i was to save gas. lol

As C41 Anthony stated above KDMAX is developed ground up for overall best “Drivability”.

A well balanced tune that doesn’t lack in any area and takes second fiddle to no one!

The “Other Tune Tuners” claim a lot about their Dyno’s and even claimed to compare ours to theirs in a well published video.

That’s like the Fox in the proverbial Henhouse.

For anyone wondering what’s real and how do you separate truth from fiction. For one don’t believe the competition when they try and speak for us.

Our own Dyno showed a plus of 20 HP and 33 TQ at peak RPM’s.

But our tune is the “Original Drivability” tune, More Smiles per Miles!

Skip tried it and loved it!

Max power and torque I’m sure are dependent on the fuel you are running. I can’t imagine claims of 20 or more hp is based on 87 octane. Even the stock tune, in my personal logging before I was tuned, responded to upwards of 95 - 96 octane, particularly in hot weather. The easiest way to make power is timing advance.

I’m almost positive fuel octane plays a role in how this tune affects the truck.

I ran a half tank of 87 the other week and I was positive something was wrong with my truck. 2019 Tacoma It shifted like crap, I even looked under the truck to make sure I wasn’t leaking trans fluid.

I was shifting like crap and just running different. I filled it up with 91 and drove home 17Miles. the next morning I felt the truck just (running better) and the shifting felt like I’m used to.

I won’t put 87 in it again, god it sucked.

I experienced the same thing with my 07 Subi, and Also in my last Tacoma that was supercharged 87 it was a dog but on 91 it was great. Subi was turbo the Tacoma was supercharged
I did notice a difference when running lower grade gas in both rides.

I can feel a difference in my 19 Tacoma thats not supercharged or turbo.

It absolutely plays a huge factor. Don’t forget the engine is high compression. Back in the day, without modern knock sensors and the ability to retard timing, an engine with 11.8:1 compression ratio would require race fuel. If you have forced induction I highly recommend sticking with premium fuel. My turbo vehicles thrived on high octane. Do you have access e85?

@TWTaco or @PapaRee might know but, unless you have oversized or all injectors firing I don't know if they could flow enough to fully take advantage of E85. Timing would also have to be adjusted to compensate. Fuel systems can handle ethanol but it's usually only spec'd to E15 unless it specifically is "flex-fuel" certified.

The fuel system components may not be able to handle the higher ethanol content, as in the moisture it'll attract, different density in terms of how it flows through both fuel pumps, seal compatibility long term, etc.

Toyota specifically warns not to use E85 fuel. Can cause fuel system corrosion. It can also void warranty. The Manual warns against E85 and I believe on the stock fuel cap it warns again against using E85.

You don’t run straight e85, 25% is fantastic for boosting octane levels and cleaning injectors / intake valves. It also run cooler than regular fuel. The problem with running e85 has nothing to do with corrosion, in general, running too much can crash the fuel pump and cause you to run lean. This is usually at 40% on up, depending on the vehicle.

Storing a vehicle with higher levels of e85 is not a good thing, but if you drive often like most of us it’s a non issue. There is a lot of info in the user manual that is not exactly accurate. Modern fuel systems do not suffer from corrosion like older vehicles. Don’t forget you are already running 10%. 4 gallons of e85 plus the rest 93 on an empty tank is roughly 96 octane or about e20 - 25 depending on the ethanol quality.

edit - I should also mention the risk of running lean and “crashing” the fuel pump from too much e85 applies when you are going WOT, not under normal driving.
