I paid and upgraded very early on to BH2.1 and went back to KDM10 about 2 weeks later. Tried both maps and 91 with octane booster but the engine wasn’t happy without octane booster and I lost MPG. Towing was slightly better but fuel economy dropped about 2MPG. Even gave BH2.1 another try a few weeks ago and still not for me. Yes, there is more power down low with BH2.1 but the engine sounds and feels like it’s on the verge of detention. I liked the low end but I get very similar performance with ECT on KDM10, still have the option for light throttle and none of the detention issues. KDM10 is the final tune for me. I’ve spent $765 between VFTuner, KDM7, BH2.1 and all the upgrades along the way and I’m just done paying more money. An N/A motor can only make so much power and the transmission calibration is better with KDM10, in my opinion. Would have been nice if they allowed development to continue on KDM in parallel with BH but that’s how acquisitions of competitors go in late stage capitalism.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I've decided that KDM10 is my last tune. I'm not driving 3-6 hours (one way) and then paying $400+ to 'upgrade' to BH2.1 after what I've already spent on KDM tunes. If I decide I really need to try another tune, there's an OTT tuner 40 minutes from me. On top of everything, I'm not overly impressed with the new owner's attitude in some of his posts.

I had said earlier that I was still keeping an open mind...guess that's changed.

    I'm out.

Thanks for this. I'm on v10 as well and sort of interested in the BH tune, but I really want to hear some real world feedback like first, Thanks for sharing.

It’s interesting how different each user’s experience can be on given tunes. I’m convinced each truck is a little different on how it handles the tune. That being said, I wouldn’t base a decision on a tune solely on user reports.

I bought the YW tune when it was offered at a discount coming from KDM10 but haven’t flashed it yet. Early on in my KDM history, my tune was tweaked a bit for slow speed driving in 3rd gear and based on anecdotal reports, that same issue may exist (for my vehicle) in BH2. Also, the KD10 shift points, (also tweaks) are exactly where I want them for driving in D. So, I figured, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Plus, I would have had no reason to switch to a different tune maker if KDM was still in business. Perhaps, if YW offers tune customizing in the future, might give it a go. But, like you, I’ve spent a sizeable chunk of dough on this tuning thing staring in 2019 and paying the difference with Cdn pesos.

I think you should invest in your tune however you see fit and if you are happy then you are set! I just want you to know that remote support exists and you can get updated or adjusted calibrations right at home saving you 6-12 hrs and it's not $400+ I mention all this because I've worked with a good 150+ owners this way and it's been a great solution to anyone no matter their technical skill since I take care of the entire process on the computer/flashing side. We've got great resources across the country and then help like this if you are not near someone should you be looking! All the best in your Tacoma ownership!

You certainly don't have to take my word for it but of the 200ish Tacoma owners I've upgraded, from KDMAX Pro v9/10 to Blackhawk 2.1, not a single one wanted to revert back nor did they not feel the calibration was an improvement. I can't take any credit on being a salesman to convince them (I hate salesman). There is CERTAINLY a preference in tuning behavior across drivers, setup, fueling, and seemingly day of the week at times so I recommend going with a tune you find that fits your needs and then updating if/as you see fit. I don't see owners putting new tires on every 6-12 months because a new model with different ratings comes out but ya know there are some out there. I have some customers that have no need to update, others that have updated every KDMAX Pro release I've offered and switched to YotaWerx....to each their own.

Don’t get me wrong, I have the tune already and love it. I’m always just surprised when I read how some do not feel the same way.

Totally, it really puts reviews on just about any mod in question really. Some like these tires some like that oil, others are all about hype and what's popular rather then what is better for them. At least we have options for just about anything

Because we drive different hardware configurations, weights, speeds, terrains, wether, etc.
If you combine one or more variables together, you may start seeing the other side of the tune(s).

No one in Nashville, but the remote option with @wahoobie guiding you will work.

@Blackbeard'$ Ghost welcome to TW! If you need any help with a remote option, assuming in-person is not workable, then please let me know!

I know I still have time on my 23, but does YW have the intention to get a CARB cert for California smog?

@805 Tacoma Tuning Tom, that driveways gets a lot of Tacos in it! :D
