Lol ok probably not! Might be worth it to buy the vF software and self-install.

    Welp,
it's been about a month since loading the KD6 tune and I promised a review so here it is.

First impressions: It's good. I can't find anything about it that isn't better than the 04B04 calibration from Toyota. Pedal feel with the "LT" setup is about as aggressive as I would ever want and I have recalibrated my right foot to be smoother pulling away from a stop. Still a little spicy for my taste, but way better than the anemic Toyota tune. Shifting is about perfect. It holds 6th on the freeway for about as long as the low-end-torque lacking engine can sustain speed and downshifts to 5th when I put a little more right foot into it if it's starting to slow down. I have never had a downshift to 4th on the freeway when I am just trying to maintain 70-75 here in Michigan. We don't have much for hills/mountains around here, though. Speaking of low end torque, there is more of it now! It's still not going to fool anyone into thinking it's a v8 or turbo 6, but it's significantly better than stock. Not sure how much of this is accel pedal/throttle tables and limits playing into feel and just allowing more tq to be delivered in low gears or how much is actual engine tq gains, but who cares!? It's there and it's useable now. It wasn't before. Gearlock worked as advertised in my limited playing around with it. If I am going to find one thing to critique it would be cruise control behavior. It's significantly better than stock, but still likes to shift to 4th and hold 4th/5th longer when accelerating even just a few mph. It is better than stock, though. Stock wouldn't ever get to 6th in my experience with CC on, this tune will it just takes a while of steady speed in 5th.

One thing I feel is worth mentioning is that initially after flashing this tune I had odd shifting behavior like excessively long gear holding through 2nd and 3rd and lots of dancing between 5/6 on the freeway. A couple days after flashing there was significant wind and I had 2 mountain bikes over the bed rack and this really exaggerated the weird shifting. A couple days after that I decided to reset the learned values in the ECU/TCU and that made a huge difference for the better. It's been about 3 weeks since then, two 1hr+ freeway trips and a bunch of city driving, including hauling a longbed full of firewood (actually full, with wood stacked above the bedsides all the way to the tailgate), twice. Performing great so far. The above impressions and opinions are based on the tune behavior from AFTER the reset, obviously. This really is a pro level tune for a great price. The service/support for making small and reasonable adjustments to tailor to you liking is just gravy on top.

    I don't think so. I think it's a SELAroadrunner thing.

So you went from 04B04 to KDMax? No OVTunes in your past life?

Maybe? I couldn't say without trying it and the "tip in" as it's been referred to around here is something very much a personal preference.

No OVTunes. Went from 04B01 to 04B04, then to my own tune, then to Kruiser4, then to Kruiser4 with some changes then to KDMax6.

The tunes for these trucks are like geological time periods. You skipped the longest period, the ‘OVTune period’ - a period of slower tune evolution which gave way to the ‘vFTune period’ - a truly dynamic period!

Oh, yeah. I am under no delusions about what kind of initial immature stage time and work went into this stuff. I followed and was part of the Subaru RomRaider deveopment community from the genesis and that took years on a much less complex ECU.

that ended up to be quite a drive. Decided to go the self install route. Just bought the vftuner with cable, guess I need the files now. Do we just pm PapaRee to purchase those (total newb here, wish me luck). Also, I assume that we can save and revert the stock tune if needed?

    thanks in advance

Little of this, little of that.
How do we flash back to stock? I don’t need to yet but just in case I need it in the future. I didn’t get a stock file or anything.
