Fixing the odometer speed is different all together from this tune. It requires having a Hypertech tool to recalibrate the speedometer. Its maybe $225. I imagine if you know someone, they might do it for $100 or even less.

I just add @10% mentally to my speedometer. Running 285/75/17.

I don't think Hypertech or Roughcountry units work that way... aren't they both configure and install inline adjusters? Hardware has to stay installed so it's a one and done purchase unless you remove it which disables the correction.

Aahh... or were you talking about the tune being $100 from somebody local?

Ok I'm mistaken then. I didn't know it was inline wires.

Hey guys, I have read through ~20-30 pages of this thread and this tune sounds awesome. I'm probably in the minority in that I'm not really looking for more power with a tune, I don't take off very fast or worry about getting up to speed as quick as I can and I never tow. The shifting points and constant gear hunting drive me crazy though, that's the main reason I'm looking at a tune.

Can I get your opinions on this; is the tune worth it if really I'm just looking for a more linear throttle response and predicable shifting, improved drivability, and hopefully improved mpg without caring as much whether I get more power? The whole reason I bought a tacoma was for the reliability, so I worry that anything that increases power and redline might compromise the reliability--- I have any real basis for saying that it just seems like asking for more out of the engine might hurt the long term reliability.

    Thanks in advance.

    Yes

Tuning fixes a lot of the transmission issues, also having more power available throughout the rev range allows the transmission to better utilize its gearing.

For a closer to stock throttle response, you can option for the SLT or Wifey Tip In.

As for the topic of reliability, we honestly cannot say ourselves that tuning will diminish or elongate the lifespan of our trucks. In my opinion, I believe that a tune will actually extend the life of the truck, as it spends less time lugging, gear hunting, and more time staying in its happy rpm ranges. Scientifically, there is not enough data to back up such a claim.

But as with any mod on these trucks, there is always a certain level of risk to take.

Redlining is user dependent. I haven't redline mine eventhough I know I can . As for reliability, I don't think the tune makes it less reliable. Maybe it will even prolong the life of the engine because of lower rpm when cruising . Holds 5th and 6th longer. ( engine sounds more relaxed)

This will and does improve your shifting points and I have personally seen either an improvement or no change in MPG. Though the MPG is really dependent on how you drive more than anything. If you're just looking for an improvement in shifting and not trying to jump the line at a red light. I would suggest either trying SLT or Wife-tip. I currently have SLT and it gives me a nice start and up to speed from a stop if I need it, but generally I drive the same as you described. I like to have the response there if I need it or if I want to pass someone quickly.

DO NOT speedo calibrate with a hypertech something is interfering with the plus a tune and it dropped my speedo 10 mph less than I was traveling. Still have not figured out what settings are crashing

    5.29 geared 33 tires

I ran the hypertech and loved it for a long time until I tuned my truck and now I can not get it accurate.

since the “stock” gearing and stuff is changed in the ECU I think the calculations are off when you put the stock stock settings in the hyper texh

Did you keep the stock gearing in hypertech? Or, change it to 5:29 gears? I did that, but it went back to normal after removing the gear settings...

I was in the same boat as you and went with SLT and I can say that I absolutely love it.
I’m not racing my truck either but the shifting is definitely improved and the truck doesn’t feel sluggish anymore. Even the wifey noticed it, loves it and even gave the “That was money well spent” approval. :D

You need to change gears back to stock for it to work in the hypertech settings. I have 5.29's and 33's and it's dead accurate verified by GPS.

Thank you all for the replys about the speedo calibration.
Still learning everything and what mods to look and get. This sounds like a great time and will be getting it in the near future.

One other question. I've been seeing a another tune that goes by sibi.
