Just check it on a regular basis. Takes a minute and you can just about do it with one of two hands, one hand for the filter and one hand for the beer. It depends on how much of a pain the plastic clips are on the filter door.

Yeah I guess, honestly, I never gave the filter much thought till I saw the display at the parts counter.

Dealer price, my punishment for not knowing about the filter!:D

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
As the title says "keeping it fresh", I change the "cabin filter" as well as the "engine filter" at each oil change (and oil filter) on my 2008 Tacoma, wifes 2003 4Runner as well as my daughters 2012 Tacoma.
Spark plugs are changed once a year on all three vehicles as well, reguardless of mileage.

    Changed mind this afternoon.
Went ok,and probably had the original in,since the previous owner was a grinch and was nt a clean freak like I am...lolo
    It was pretty nasty.
Cost at the dealer with taxes 32 bucks Canadian.
    Glad that it is done!
    Cheers

Ordered mine on Amazon. Changed mine. It's was full of small leaves and dirt along with a few dead spiders. Took literally 2 min. Will be nice having fresh air. I do want to upgrade to a nice charcoal filter.

I have to say, the musty smell in the cab is gone. Was probably all the leaves and debris rotting that was in the filter.

I find that I changed my CAF approximately every other oil change when I was living in Puerto Rico (I think it was the humidity) but in Connecticut I change it maybe every third oil change. The longer you leave it duty, the more likely you will develop a musty and "forresty" smell. If you are experiencing that smell already, change the filter and it'll go away within a few weeks. If you want a rapid eradication of the smell change the CAF and spray a little air freshener into the filter (I still do this even with the smell gone).

Note: I change my oil every: 4,000-4,500 miles as it is full synthetic.

You can get them at local auto DIY places (Autozone, Advance, O'Reilly...etc) but it is much cheaper online as many members have stated. The ones I use are from Autozone as I don't mind paying a little to have it now and I have a Rewards card.

The part numbers for the CAFs I use are:

    Purolator brand- C35644

    STP brand CAF1765

Just figured I'd add in on my CAF maintenance routine for y'all. Its a fairly easy process...have a good one.

It should just slide out without too much effort. It might be installed slightly off and is binding. Or you got something stuck in there (like a twig) or you are pulling on the wrong thing.

    Same as everybody else...
Gonna change the air filter next oil change, probably in July. I changed the cabin air filter in a friend's Altima, the stealership wanted something like 90 bucks to change it for her. It was a huge PIA to do but still only took about 15 minutes. Great video OP, thanks for sharing.
