Interesting, I have a 2017 with the same tires and my sticker has 28psi cold. Maybe because yours is a long bed?

I set to 35psi on hot days.

If I set it to 29psi on a hot day, it will 100% drop below threshold and trigger the light.

Blame techs all you want, but this is standard practice. Toyota even has a chart for us to go by.

Also the TPMS reads 2psi lower than most expensive gauges. So we set to 35psi for it to show 33psi on the dash.

I have 315/75/16s and my cold pressure is 31 to 32 psi. When I was stock long time ago I ran about 30 to 31 psi

Direct Tire set my new 265/70/16 UltraTerrains at 35psi. Feels pretty good. I’ll be offroad in central Baja this afternoon for 8 daze running 20psi.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I think what he's trying to say is on a hot day where a customer drove for a while to get there, tires are hot and setting them at 29 will guarantee a "return customer" complaint when they start it back up next morning and now their tires are at 26 (with tpms light on).

I always get home from a rotation and recheck torque and pressure the next morning anyway. I don't hold psi being a little off against whomever did the work because of the above. If they set it at 40+ or something stupid or torque was way off, then will leave some areas of improvement comment on the survey.

I like keeping my stock sport at 32 psi. Better ride in my opinion.

This is all totally preference... 35psi will not hurt you though, I've always ran a higher pressure like that.

I've never noticed my tire psi drops at any time, hot or cold, when i start up the next day. Sure, if my tires after use are "X" they will certainly by "X-Y" after they cool down but they won't be below the cold starting point from the previous day because the days temperature was warmer. I'm still not following. Sometimes I just can't keep up with everyone, oh well.

Good example. Here yesterday in Sacramento, it was 99 degrees. Let’s say I drive my taco to the dealer and they inflate my tires to 35psi. So the tires are “hot” from driving to the dealer, plus it is just a hot day.

I come home, go to sleep. Next day it’s 55 degrees in the morning when I drive to work. Now my psi might be at 30 psi because of the temp drop.

you know, when it’s hot, everything expands. When it’s cold, things shrink.

I think you need to read into this a little. He's saying if it's a hot day and he sets his pressure to 29psi, once it cools off outside tire pressure is going to drop and activate the TPMS warning light.

Bottom line: set your tires to manufacturer recommended pressures. If you have "upgraded" tires, start with manufacturer recommendation, chalk test, and adjust as/if necessary.

I wouldn't trust anybody but myself to properly inflate my own tires. That being said, a few PSI in either direction isn't going to make much difference. As @Smacky2020 said, it's good practice to recheck pressure and torque ASAP after service visits. Unfortunately, most techs I've met couldn't care less if your tires are inflated to the correct pressure and many (maybe most) will use an impact wrench to re-install the lugs.

I've heard of TPMS being + - a pound or so, but not a consistent 2PSI under actual. I check my tires often with a pretty good digital gauge and it registers right-on on three tires and sometimes a pound low on the other (sometime right-on so I'm assuming it's off 1/2 pound or so) do have aftermarket sensors which where replaced when I bought new wheels, so maybe that makes a difference.

FWIW, I run my tires high @35 pounds which of course needs to be adjusted as seasons change. I have them rotated 2x year and tread wear is perfect and ride is to my liking.

Ah yes. Thank you for clarifying. I was looking at the scenario from the opposite side- the tires were 35 cold. Thank you.
