I have been thinking about going into a Tundra lately, specifically a double cab SR5 with the TRD upgrade or just the SR5 and add larger aftermarket wheels/tires and Bilstein 5100's all around. I obviously can get good value for my Tacoma. I don't wheel my Tacoma anymore as much as I want due to work/family commitment, maybe 2-3 times a year. I due use my truck to haul firewood/compressed wood bricks year round since I heat my house with a wood stove and many other projects that test the trucks payload, reason 1 why I want Tundra. Reason 2 is mpgs are about the same, I am around 15 on my Taco. Reason 3 I don't wheel as much so Tacoma seems unused how its built. I have 65k miles on my Tacoma and pretty good mods(see my signature). Still owe a couple grand on it as well.
Next option is just keep Tacoma as my "beater" if you will (not really) and sell my other car a 99 Mustang Cobra garage queen that has 80k miles and has is well modded and only comes out on nice days. It's modded with 375hp all motor. It's a fun car but not practical with a family and any form of bad weather at all. I was thinking about a something with better mpg, fun, yet practical for have a family of 3 in. I drive 40 miles a day for work so I would split mileage with 2 cars. Other car idea was sell mustang and get a 2015/16 WRX or STI and lightly mod them but still retain daily driveability and keep Tacoma. Looking for opinions and sorry if I'm posting in the wrong area, please move moderated if needed. Not looking for other options in car buying advice either, just unsure what direction to go. Looking atmakinga choice next late winter/spring.

not that our opinions should matter but your Tacoma is far better than your Mustang in my opinion, and more practical too.

If you need more payload then you need more payload. Simple.

Are you looking at a 2015 Tundra Doublecab 4x4?
Because their payload rating is only around 1500-1600lbs. The Tacoma is rated for around 1500. And judging by the Tundras I've seen with a load in the back, you can expect similar behavior from a Tundra as you're getting with your Tacoma (massive rear end squat and a floaty front end).
If increased payload is what you're looking for, the Tundra's not really an upgrade...

+1, you will never recover what you have in the Tacoma on mods. Sell mustang and buy Tundra.

Keep both and pay of Tacoma. The extra money will be nice. I have a similar setup as you. 97 Tacoma and 97 Saleen Mustang. Love them both.

Selling the Mustang won't make enough $$ to get a 2015 STi, not even close.

Invest in a small heavy duty trailer and your hauling issues are solved.

Or sell the mustang, pay off Tacoma and still invest in the trailer and/or airbags in the rear to solve the hauling issue.

You've gotten along with the Tacoma this long. You'll never recoup your mods (not on the Cobra either), but I'd rather have a WRX than an old muscle car. Just my preference. And then you have two vehicles you can use year round.
