So, this is for skiing, and my skis don't fit in the bed very comfortably, so the rack will have to have space to hold our skis and hold a cargo tray.

Thought about this. This seems like a really high effort solution with a lot that can go wrong.

Also considered this - worried about having a bunch of containers frozen in place if it gets snowed on since we will be taking it out during ski season.

Also, to add to this, I can manipulate the tongue weight by manipulating what goes on the tongue - there is a small space for me to add at least a few things, and I was considering adding a battery.

OEM SS tube steps, Access LE tonneau cover, pop n'lock, AVS in-channel vent visors, stubby antenna, Wet Okole seat covers, bed mat, rear diff breather mod, 4 extra d rings in bed, K&N air filter.
Cover them with a tarp to keep the snow out :notsure:

Get a cap rather than a tonneau for your "car."

Both have advantages and disadvantages. Hard to haul a refrigerator with a cap on the back.

I'm surprised nobody has yet suggested just strapping the cooler to the top of the A-liner forward of the axle :hattip:

That was suggested. Not sure if there's enough space there because of the propane tank + battery. And I do need to be able to have an open truck bed because when i'm not planning first-world upper middle class road trips, I haul things for our never-ending home renovation project.

I meant literally strapped on top of the a-liner roof, not over the hitch. It should be able to handle the weight.
