    Check out my build thread.
I just ordered a Kenwood DNX7140. I'm also getting it with a backup camera and the Ipod cable. I don't want to pay an installer a bunch of money if the install is as easy as it sounds. Can anyone point me in the direction of a write up for a NAV/DVD install? I don't know the first thing about installing stereo's or backup cameras.

Even better, is anyone in the Myrtle beach area good with these kinds of installs who might be willing to help?
    Thanks!

Everything should come with instructions that are pretty straight forward. I had never installed a stereo and had no problem hooking up my Kenwood unit and camera. As long as you have a wiring harness coming with the new unit you should be all set, you don't want to butcher the stock wiring.

Yes match the colors. What kind of dash you got in there right now. If it is factory you will see 4 plugs and your wire harnes will have the same plugs. Match them up then match the colors. Now for the back up camera I have no clue sorry. I do know that there is a manuel in glove box that covers it tho.

Yep, just match the colors and you're good to go. However, you'll probably want to take the GPS that is supposed to be connected to the parking brake and ground it out instead. That way you can still use the GPS/DVD whenever you want.

As far as the back up camera, after you mount the camera and run the wire under and up through the floor, you'll tap into the reverse light wire located behind the kick panel (right next to the emergency brake). That way when ever you put the truck in reverse the camera gets power and comes on automatically.

There's a thread here somewhere about the install process but if you have any questions just let me know and I can try to talk you through it. It should all make sense once you have the products and you're looking at wiring in your truck.

Thanks, the write up I found has the process for the grounding of the parking brake wire. As far as I know it is correct. I will take a look at everything when I get it all.

I'm planning on running the camera wires along the driver side frame rail, inside some wire loom, and up through a grommet in the floor board. I'm not sure what blackshirts is referring to about a camera manual? I have an 07, no stock camera, I bought an aftermarket one.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure I'll be posting questions in here soon enough. I have the stock radio in now, so I'm guessing I can get the harness all hooked up, and then all I have to do in the truck is plug in the harness, and push the unit in with my dash kit, and then just go about hooking up the back up cam, or am I missing a step in there?

Sounds like you have it figured out. If you picked up the Kenwood camera then it'll come with instructions/manual and it should be pretty straight forward. You already have a plan for running the wires so just figure out the tapping into the reverse wire and you'll be all set.

I grabbed this sanyo camera, because it has a corrected field of view, an aircam view, and few other features I liked. I thought it was pretty cool. It's a universal camera, so I am hoping it isn't too difficult to install, even for an electrical idiot like myself!

    http://us.sanyo.com:80/Backup-Cameras/Backup-Camera-System

Thanks for the help, keep an eye out, I'm sure this thread will be updated in the next few days when I get this stuff in!

I did search, but if you could locate any good install threads I would appreciate it. I saw one picture of the wire to tap for the reverse signal, but I can't find it.

if you want to watch while you drive dont ground to the parking brake. Just ground to the same ground wire the head unit uses. This way you wont be posting a thread later.

Nice, I bought mine on ebay, so I'm stuck with installing it, or paying someone to do it. I think I might be able to handle it, at least I hope so. How do you like the unit? I'm mostly excited for the backup camera!

i love it. everything on it is user friendly and is worth the money. my only gripe about it is that you cant control the music through the ipod

    Even with the IP301V?

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17391_Kenwood+KCA-IP301V+-For+2009-2010+Models-.html

Edit: nevermind, I see what you mean. Not a huge issue, I have the DF-Toy ipod adapter in my truck now, and I only use the ipod to change songs once in a while.

How good is it with scrolling through songs on the screen? If it's decently quick about it, I can live with it.

i normally put it on allrandom, but if your looking for specific songs you can just search by the first letter in the name of it to save some time from repeatedly pressing the arrow keys to scroll through the list

DudE it's so easy to navigate these kenwoods. Electrical is probably the easiest to do njust remember three things. Source, load and ground. Source back there is your power wire Which is gonna be red I'm sure either way it will be the thickes. Your head unit is the load and a ground is a ground is a ground! Don't over think it u will be fine.

Ok, so I don't have my camera, or ipod adapter yet, but I have a few questions with my wire harness.

I have things twisted together for now.

All from the Kenwood harness I have the following unconnected.
    Tan mute
Blue with yellow tracer steering wheel remote input
    Blue white tracer P. Cont.

I'm going to add a steering wheel input later.
However should I do anything with the mute or p-cont?

I have 2 relay wires, but they don't match up color wise. They have red tracers.

I grounded the prk sw to the ground in the harness. I also left the reverse open for splicing with the wire in the kick panel, which I'll get to later.

I also have a dark blue wire from the extra harness, that says power antenna paired with a blue kenwood wire saying Ant. Cont. Should this just stay open, or can I connect these two wires? I don't have a power antenna.
