I bought the Pioneer unit from Crutchfield, it's getting delivered on Monday, along with some Boston Acoustic speakers for the door. Still trying to figure out if I want a sub, and if so, what will fit under the seat.

I have some Polk's in the back of my '77 FJ40:

They're an outdoor speaker, but work well in that noisy ol' thing!

do you plan on running the door speakers off the head unit or an amp?
the kenwood head unit has an rms output of 22 watts, the pioneer has an rms output of 14 watts.

Picked up the Pioneer 3400 a few weeks ago from Besty Buy for the same price. However, I installed it and now my music slightly fades in and out not matter what the unit is on (tuner, cd, ipod, etc) any of you guys know why it would do that? Is it because I might need an amp? It's installed on the JBL system. Don't mean to thread jack but I've asked this before with no response so I thought maybe one of y'all might know.

Doesn't the JBL system have a built in amp that needs to be bypassed?

I have no idea. I don't know jack about audio stuff other than how to install a head unit. Maybe I'll just take it into a shop and see what they say. The JBL system sounds good enough to me not to replace it but I'm almost at the point of just re-installing my stock unit

Just installed Polk 6.5" components (Db series). Can't go wrong with these normally I think 200 on crutchfield found for $107 on Amazon. Use to have these in my 02 civic and they never failed and they scream when you put an amp to them.I had to build baffles(adapter ring) out of 3/4" MDF board to cover the factory 6x9 hole(front). I put a few pieces of dynamat while I had the doors apart and ran new speaker wire.

I like the Bostons so far, but I ran out of time last Sunday when putting everything in, and didn't get to the Kicker Hideaway sub. That will make a big difference in how the Bostons sound, as I'll be routing my lows away from the Bostons entirely.

Any opinions on which HU is better? I'm looking at the same 2 for my 2012 Access Cab. Is either a better fit for an android device (HTC evo design 4G)?
