5'6" 158 lbs. I'm not looking for massive weight loss, just to get back down to a healthier weight and mostly for the health benefits of a low carb low sugar diet.

    I ask because I’m 5’9” and 155 roughly 8% body fat.
I was going keto for health/diet reasons, I actually want to gain weight (mass).

I struggled immensely with going into ketosis. I wasn’t able to do it.
The almond flours, high fiber tortillas, all those had way too many carbs. Shit I couldn’t even eat a salad most days it was too many carbs.

I’m not trying to discourage you at all but am curious how guys/gals with an athletic body type do with keto.
So when you try please report back. Maybe it can give me hope of being successful if I try it again. :)

    Subbed.

Just can't seem to get into ketosis.

Shift work is a mutherfucker when it comes to a steady diet.

have you tried something like this: LINK

I use that in combination with MCT oil. the MCT oil i thought wasn't working, but man after 2 weeks it's crushed my appetite which has been awesome. For the record, this isn't a long term thing for me, I was just wanting to try it haha

Where did you guys get guidance on your diet, i.e. daily menus's and foods to eat and when to eat them ?

I went on line and saw mostly diet subscription fees, but want to try to do it on my own if possible.

I want to drop about 15 to 18 lbs.

    Thanks

I’m a nutrition nerd, so through the years I have just become aware of what contains carbs and what doesn’t as well as the science behind ketosis.
Ketosis is about more than just carb avoidance its also about keeping your fat intake up. Eating a diet too high in protien can kick you out of ketosis.
So you want to focus as much on high fat as you do minimal carbs.

Depending on your weight and body fat percentage you may or may not be able to get away with actual carb counting.

I Would encourage you to count because it is so easy to jump over. Especially with processed foods.

Over time paying attention to labels and counting will give you a 6th sense when it comes to judging a foods nutritional value. Its labor instensive at first but gets easier with time.

    A couple good articles:
    https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/ketogenic-diet-101#weight-loss

    https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto

I also have MyFitnessPal and when I make new recipes I add the meals in there and create meals based on serving size so I can easily determine how many net carbs for what I’m eating.

Recipes can be easily found on Google or sites like Pinterest.

Just found this thread. Been on Keto for about a month, not for me, but my wife was put on it by her doctor, so I am on it as well.

The above recipe is one of our faves. Easy, quick, especially delicious if you use the Quest powder mentioned in the video.

Back on the wagon today.

Was 205.4 this morning... not too bad considering I’ve been eating everything in sight since this past Saturday

Only allowing one more “cheat” day in the near future: my birthday is on 1/18 and I want cake. :D

I was 286 lbs on November 4th when I started Keto for like the 5th time in the last few years. Usually I fall off after like 20-30 lbs and then gain it all back, but this time I'm sticking to it. I also had a bet with a buddy at work about who could weigh the lowest by new years. I weighed in this morning at 245, planning on another 30-40 lbs. When I went on vacation last week he was still in the 270s/260s, so when I go back to work next week he'll have had to lose like 20lbs in 2 weeks (which he won't because he keeps drinking every few nights)

This time I'm taking Animal pack Cuts, as well as going to the gym at least twice a week. I've also realized I mostly stuck to chicken on the diet and usually got tired of it really quickly, this time I bought a boat load of different meats and try to season them differently every time. I try to stick to 10 carbs or less per day, this puts me at almost a pound per day of weight loss. The first week or two when I start (after a cheat day) I'll usually go 5 carbs or less. I also drink about 3-5 of of my 40oz mugs of water every day, so I'm in the bathroom like every 20 minutes.

Plan is to get back down to about 210 where I was when I got out of the Navy and then start working out alot harder to get into shape and hopefully level out in the 210sor 220s

You’ll have to get over it.

I have food allergies and intolerances and things I can’t eat because of an autoimmune condition but people still give me shit for what I do and don’t eat.

I just ignore it as best as I can.

Our society is very strange about food.
