Although it's not necessary at this time, I've decided to get ahead of a future problem, by pricing out a new clutch kit for my 1998 Tacoma.

While doing so, I've encountered kevlar clutch kits for first generation Tacomas. They seem to be reasonably priced; along with the added endorsement of lasting longer than the OEM part; but I'm wondering if a kevlar clutch would be practical for a daily driver....thoughts anyone?

My oem clutch has roughly 208000 miles on it. what kind of claims do they make?

They're allegedly supposed to last two to three times longer than OEM.

Never heard of A Kevlar Clutch disc Who is making them ??

While your disc might last 2 or 3 times longer you still have the clutch plate and release bearing to consider and rear main seal .

Until someone comes up with the complete clutch that will match clutch disc life I will pass

I know people that can destroy the best of clutches in a week or less.

clutch life is determined by use/abuse... if you were to use the clutch once and run the truck for 1,000,000 miles and never stop it then you could advertise a million mile clutch. I am sure that there is a * in their promotional material.

Never heard of that before either. I'd still just go OEM. The clutch will outlast the transmission itself.

** Always the disclaimer under normal use !!

Anyone that can drive a 1,000,000 without stopping has more problems then clutch life .
