After I start my truck my key comes out easily and truck stays running and drives off. Any solutions?

    Welcome to the forum.

New ignition is it. All the older Toyota's had this problem.

My 05 key comes out too. I like it cause I can start my truck to warm it up then take my keys and unlock/lock my camper shell to load up ski gear while the truck warms up

Mine does the same thing, the key has worn down enough that there's no hard edge to keep it in the ignition anymore.

As long as it always comes back, I don't see a problem.

Although it’s possible that the ignition lock cylinder has some wear on it, the most likely cause is a worn out key. Look at the key. If it’s obviously worn thinner and the notches are all rounded looking, you need a new key. If you have a blinking red car symbol light on the dash when the key is out, you need an immobilizer key. That gets a little bit involved. If you come back to this thread, we’ll point you in the direction you need to go.

Continuing to use a worn key is really bad for the lock cylinder. It forces the wafers to go when they’re not perfectly aligned, causing wear to the wafers and the lock cylinder.

    That tells us 3 things.

    1. The lock cylinder is worn out.
    2. Your truck needs an immobilizer key.
    3. You’re not aware that crank and turn over mean exactly the same thing.
