From the prices your quoting it seems to be You have lost all your keys and need one made .

The LockSmith comes to the vehicle most often pulls the right door cylinder and makes the key.

Having a Blank Cut the cost of the blank and any where from a few dollars to what ever people are willing to pay in the area only $100.00 plus for chipped keys.

I have one key that works well and a fresh one that doesn't. Both were given to me when I bought the truck 4 years ago.
Then just the other day while replacing the exterior broken door handle, I cleaned up all the moving parts inside the door and lubed as needed. Doing so the lock cylinder has to be removed, so I took a photo of the key code on the side of it for any future issues.

For your 1st gen? I got my 1st gen key copied at the local hardware store for $5.

Where are you trying to get it done at, the dealer?

Any regular key cutting kiosk should be able to do it.

If you give the dealer your VIN & show them your registration they can cut you a key right then and there. Did that for my 2000 Tacoma and it was $9 and worked great.

Dealer gave me two of these when i drove it off the lot back in '02. Durable AF and saved me more than once. Even though it says do not use for the ignition, it would be fine in a pinch.

My Snap On scan tool will program replacement keys for certain models of vehicles. I will order the chiped key and just have the lock shop cut it, of course they tell you that it will need to be programed for $90. I tell them thanks but no thanks, this is just to be used to get in the vehicle if I lock the keys inside. The crazy thing about the Snap on tool is that you override the the security "feature" by waiting 10 minutes then you can reprogram all the keys you want. If you have a buddy who has access to a Pro level scan tool it might be worth a phone call.

Yup, the idea of that plastic key is easier storage with your credit cards etc in your wallet.

I had a wallet long ago that had a spot to insert a spare key inside the folds

Those need to make a comeback! It looks as if you have to break it off thus not being able to slip the card back into your wallet. You could probably have ordered as many key cards as you wanted. No matter, a poster just said he bought a wallet with a key compartment in it. Those kind of wallets are probably extinct now too. Great idea tho. And yes, they were probably rigid enough to use in the ignition slot, tho not recommended.

Last month when I was at AAA I asked if they still can make them and they said no. They haven't made them since 2006. You do need to break off the key tip from the card but you can just bend it out. I once drove Home from Mammoth Lakes to Riverside 320 miles because I lost my keys on the slopes.
