Key fell apart... brand new

Making my first payment due on April 26... so I haven't had the new Tacoma 3 weeks.

I go to pickup my keys this morning and the entire assembly just fell apart.

Is this Toyota Quality I can come to expect ?

This is not a quality problem. Mine have been dropped with no issues.

 

Just snap back together. Buy a protector for it

Clearly the truck's quality is garbage. I recommend either returning it under Lemon Law, or parting it out. It's only going to get worse from here on out.

Sorry OP, I was teasing, because I thought the following was pretty common knowledge in the Toyota world...

The H-key is actually held together using a small electromagnet. When the key fob's battery is low, the magnet will disengage, allowing the key to come apart. This is a feature of the key, so that you can easily replace the key fob battery when it's dead. Clearly your keys have been sitting in a lock box for quite some time (truck sat on the lot). Just replace the battery, snap it back together and it should stay closed, until the battery needs replacement again.

You can get a Pro fob right from the factory in Guangzhou - you have to glue the emblem on yourself for copywrite reasons BUT ITS THE SAAME.

I got a knock off Mazda flip fob for ours. It works great, even after a couple drops.

But, yeah. Most of the plastics are not made in the west. It used to be a thing to say that when a Boeing aircraft that crashed, it was not really a Boeing issue. Recent events have ruined that example and a few other things.

I dunno guys my key from a 2012 never did that - my wifes key never did that - just never seen anything like it.

 

Make a service appointment... be a 3 hour job to reassemble the key .

 

Maybe that's the key you get when you buy a "2021 SR5 V6 W4D ACESS CAB". Does your Monroney sticker say made in China, instead of Mexico?
