In buying my 2023 OR, it was low mileage used and came with only a single key fob. So, I found an OEM fob for a 2023, ordered it, and it arrived yesterday. It is identical to the fob that came with the truck. All numbers match, both internally and externally.

Took it to an automotive locksmith for programming...which is where the issues start. The locksmith got the new key programmed and it started the truck. Everything seemed to be working. After turning it off, and disconnecting his device, neither fob would work to lock/unlock the truck. Keyless entry also doesn't work. The truck does unlock with the emergency key, and will start and run normally. The locksmith spent an hour trying to figure out what was wrong, reset the immobilizer, and disconnected the battery to reset the system. Nothing worked.

Now, I have an appointment with the dealership, but not until 11/28. Thought I'd see if anyone else has run into a similar issue and what/if any fixed the glitch (so to speak). I assume the locksmith screwed something up, but no idea what and/or what to tell the dealership...other than I tried to end around with a new key and the locksmith hosed everything up.

I have not heard of that. Did he try resetting and programing both key fobs?

Any chance it would be a blown fuse? If so, anyone have an idea which fuse controls the keyless entry system?

Here is a long shot, but have you tried cleaning the metal contacts where the coin battery sits with steel wool? My Fob was having trouble communicating with my truck and that fixed it. I know your situation is slightly different reprogramming a second Fob.

I will dig up the material, but short version is the locksmith didn't do it right. The modules that unlock and allow starting are different and they only got one setup correctly.

The main body ECU handles the remote lock/unlock functions, the certification ECU handles the smart key engine start. The basic registation process for each are below. From your descritpion the locksmith still needs to regiester the keys with the main body ECU.

Thanks for all the info and advice. The dealership had a cancellation this morning and got it in. They confirmed what you said, Matt. Cost for the fix was covered by the locksmith so I came out whole on the deal.
