Same here. Voltage is good on the old and new batteries, same results.

Anyone else having this issue? When I first got my truck 3 months ago, the distance was easily 50-70 feet and now I have to be within 10 feet for it to work. I'm thinking either my dashcam is causing electromagnetic noise or somehow my ceramic tints might be affecting it... Bugging the crap out of me

I wonder if some fob frequecies are susceptible to interference more than others. I can hit mine with a 7-month old battery and its a daily driver from across a large parking lot when using the under the chin trick. Fat has water, maybe its because of my fat head :)

EDIT: 100’ with the same 2017 battery and the under chin on my daily driver!

Weird thing is, the under the chin trick adds no distance whatsoever for me, still wont work over 10ft at best...

Anyone tried using the Viper alarm kit instead of the OEM?

Tredd- try it with someone else’s with their car who can do the chin trick just to see if its you. And have that person who can do it try your truck out too to see if it is your truck.

Thats a good idea, i'll try it. Key fob range still shortened by a huge amount though over just two months. Super frustrating to be standing a little out of arms reach from the truck while spamming the lock button without any luck.

I suspect its your reciever- maybe a warranty fix. Let the dealer know about your experimenting results. In fact, go to the dealer and try it with other tacomas.

I’ve got a similar problem. My hasn’t gotten worse, just wasn’t great to begin with.

If anybody can come up with a real solution (beyond the chin trick haha) I’d be interested

My electrical engineer friend told me a bigger / stronger battery wont do it. Has to do with the transmitter itself

For me I’m assuming it’s the receiver that must be acting weird since both of my key fobs unlock/lock at the same (short) distance.

My Tacoma seems to have a longer range than almost any car I’ve owned. If I think I’ve forgotten to lock it, I can just click the remote inside the house ... and I’ll hear my Pop-n-Loc tailgate lock from inside as it locks. Two and a half year old remote battery.

    Truck stuff
I rarely even use my key fob. I just walk/run up and grab the door handle. Only time I really use the fob is for my remote start to heat/cool the truck.

I really can get mine to beep 100ft without doing the chin trick- I can triple the distance doing it.

Mine works inside of my house at about 30 feet from the truck. Though it’s hard to hear the Toyota “beep” from there. But it does work. Outside I don’t know. I always just use the finger thing on the door handle so I don’t have to dig the key out of my pocket.

After some trial and error, I have discovered the culprit regarding my range distance. I currently have a 2-channel dashcam system(Blacksys Ch-200) installed, which includes a rear cam that is wired around in the roofliner. When in parking mode, the system stays on when the car is off and I can safely assume that the wiring from the front camera to the rear camera is creating enough electromagnetic noise to interfere with my door unlock wireless frequencies. I tried changing the fuse taps thinking it could be a power issue but to no avail. Hope this might someone else.

Edit: I just realized that it could possibly be noise from the power line rather than the rear channel line. Going to test.

Edit 2: Confirmed it's the rear camera channel line. Disconnected rear camera and only ran parking mode with the front camera and my key fob range distance was restored to 60+ feet.

    Tha

Thats pretty interesting....i have a Blacksys CH100B in my wifes NX with the rear camera in parking mode I dont experience any problems with the keyfob response. I have a CH200 in my Tacoma and i am having the same issues with the keyfob as you mentioned. Mine isnt so much a distance issue, just works intermittently. I even switched it out to my brand new, never used keyfob and changed the batteries in both and still have the issues. I will try and test it out by disconnecting the rear cam on my truck. Did you disconnect it from the front or back? Both vehicles camera lines are run along the headliner in a similar fashion. I also thought it may be an issue with the aftermarket LED bulbs that i installed, because i am having the same issues with my Dodge Caravan, but that one doesnt have a dashcam installed. They both have aftermarket LED lights installed though.
