Key fob remote start on 2021 TRD OR not working anymore?

    Hey all,

    After much research (and mixed information from Toyota dealerships) I think my key fob remote start is not working anymore because I am 3 years past the 1-year initial trial period. I had two Toyota dealerships tell me different things, but the internet seems to suggest this is the cause.

    Beyond that, I have tried replacing my key fob battery, making sure "maintenance required soon" has been reset, and made sure I had no low tire pressure light on.

    Anybody have a definitive answer about this 3 year period where it works and then requires a subscription? My truck was advertised with remote start when I bought it. 2021 TRD OR with standard audio package.

    Bought the truck in Dec '20 so we are coincidently right at 4 years (1 year trial plus 3 extra years)

    Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Seems to be a common phenomena. Toyota shuts it off on us. Mine stopped working almost exactly 4 years after I drove it home from the dealer.

    Some Premium Packages with Navigation have up to 10 years free remote start. I am almost on my 4th year and it still works so I wait and see.

    Year 6 and mine still does it. And I never signed up for anything. There just seems to be no rhyme or reason here!

    Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
    Have a 23 and it stopped working. I rarely use it but wouldn't mind it now that it's a bit chilly, but of course now it doesn't work. Bought truck used end of last December.

    In your Toyota care app go and sign up for the free 10 year trial period. There will be 3 data right agreement’s to review and sign off on. At least one will need to be agreed with to get remote start back. Give it 24-48 hours and you will be able to remote start again.

    Oh, I actually read those and I bet I won't like the terms! Lol. Pretty sure I've seen recently there's a remote start that works with the 3rd gen.

    Got my 21 in November of 2020 and the remote start still works. Never extended the one year trial.

    i have a '23 the fob has never worked...i pay for the phone app and it works, i was thinking the fob was turned off because i use the phone...to be honest i could not be using the fob correctly ha! im talking about the remote start function..

    Press the lock button on the key fob three times quickly, hold the lock button on the third press until the vehicle starts.

    My fob remote start stopped working yesterday. Went to the app and signed up for the 10 year free service connect trial. Works again. Guess we'll see what happens in 10 years.

    That was the first time ever using the toyota app.

    Not sure when mine stopped functioning, but it doesn't work now. For those of you that signed up for the 10 year thing, did it work instantly, or did you have to wait 48 hours as was said by an earlier post? I signed up for the 10 year trial (today), and it still didn't work... called customer care and they said you have to maneuver to the paid subscriptions and subscribe for $8mo or $80yr in the app to get it back.

    Mine started working within a few minutes. Did you decline everything when you signed up? I think the only one you can decline is the insurance sharing one.

    Mine started working at approximately 6-8 hours after agreeing to at least sharing data with dealer. I declined sharing with insurers.

    Appreciate the replies... it works now!

    Here's the deal, once I agreed to the 10 year trial of connected services so my Stealership can hit me with emails, I declined the other two monitoring consents so #1 of 3 I agreed to. Then the phone rep tried to get me to sign up for the $8 per month thing... she clearly indicated that was the only way I could get remote start back, I declined. Today, when I fired up the truck, an audible voice through my speakers said something like "your update is complete". I ran an erend, came home, turned the truck off. Executed Lock, Lock, Lock and Hold.... and boom, it started. Don't particularly like the monitoring thing, but whatever. Thanks again Team TacoWorld! You always come through in a pinch!

    Fucking infuriates me. Barely used mine either. But the rent seeking bullshit with having remote start in the truck but having to pay for it makes me wish ill upon whoever signs off on that type shit.
