Did you ever figure this out? Mine abruptly stopped working on Monday (11/11/24). On Sunday, I remote started the vehicle with the fob, then never ended up entering the vehicle (presuming the remote start automatically shuts off the vehicle after a set amount of time). I have never installed the Toyota app. Remote start has always worked until now. Now it will not remote start with the Fob at all. Click, click, click+hold. I do not get the multiple flashes indicating that remote start is initiating.

start w the basics- does your fob work at all? Does it lock/unlock the truck?
Try the functions from the other fob. Check the fob’s battery.

start w the basics- does your fob work at all? Yes
Does it lock/unlock the truck? Yes
Try the functions from the other fob. I have one fob
Check the fob’s battery (relatively new battery)

My instinct tells me it has something to do with not opening the door when activating remote start on Sunday. Usually, I remote start every morning, then enter and restart, then drive off.
Never had an issue until now.

"I do not get the multiple flashes indicating that remote start is initiating."

To be clear, when typically clicking the fob, each time it will blink once, then after holding on the third click for roughly 3 seconds, it will blink about 6-8 times to signal that remote start is starting. The clicks all flash properly, just not the 6-8 times after holding on the 3rd click. Hopefully that is clear.

Yep, mine stopped working recently as well, lock--lock--lock and hold.
It did work when I bought the truck Jan 18th 2024.
It is kind of a pisser. One of the features advertised but has disabled itself.
Along with the advertised leather-not leather seats, and the Limited Slip Differential, not Limited slip Differential.
    2020 TRD sport.

Mine has always worked on the fob with lock, lock, lock/hold for at least 10 seconds.
Sometimes have to try a few times and be within 20 yds of truck.
Never got multiple flashes to confirm.
    Never used the app.

Add mine to the list of recently stopped working. I never installed or used the APP, just the fob and it's no longer working.

it might be because it was free for 3 years and now you have to pay for it

edit: free for one year i think but some people it keeps working but then stops one day for unknown reason, might be related to the model

ugh, it sounds like maybe it's more of a software problem than a hardware problem

@RIX TUX - Not sure what you're trying to add to the conversation. We're trying to figure out a seemingly easy problem. Remote start is already installed and has functioned for 4 years now, just recently stopped working. Other people are having the same problem. No need to spend money, this is likely a software issue. Actual input is appreciated.

@crashnrondo - Did anything change recently? What year Taco? Do you have Connected Services or only use the Fob?

Does anyone know a Toyota tech we can tag here for input?

Exactly...I'm not looking to spend the $12 per month or whatever for the app. The fob has been working just fine for my needs.

Have you seen the documentation or remember where it was posted about the 1 or 3 years for the key fob? I sorta remember something with the 2020's stopping after a year but Toyota got a bunch of grief and did something to let the key fob continue to work and I thought there was no time frame. I can't find it now of course but I know I read it on here.

I don’t blame ya! If it’s tech you paid for, that they’re trying to force you to pay for.
My new F150 work truck has remote start from the app only at no extra charge.
