@crashnrondo - Did anything change recently? What year Taco? Do you have Connected Services or only use the Fob?

Never used connected services, only the fob. Nothing changes other than my USB input stopped working.

IIRC, in another thread regarding the same thing I think one of the possibilities was that if the vehicle had a code that effected the vehicle in some way the FOB Remote Start was disabled until the code(s) were cleared. A safety issue.

Certainly not all codes as I currently have an Air Bag deactivated and I temporarily unplugged the 4x4 module and in both cases the vehicle started using the FOB.

Added: The OP can ignore this as his inquiry was in January.

That's great insight, I'll check that tonight. No CEL is currenly on in the dash.

That's odd, do you use the USB for something other than charging?

Nope not a thing. I did use it to update the firm ware trying to fix it and I was able to do that but it didn't fix my problem. I really don't think the two things are related. I don't have any errors or codes so that's not the starting problem either, I'm guessing the 3 year thing is probably right but it pisses me off. How long before they turn off the heated seats or sunroof?

no documents i found but my sticker says one year and some here have said it worked after a year, i have the connected services for 80 a year and never use the remote start...... you just have to try and see if it still works if you "need, cant live without" remote start

I'm not exactly sure what the "3 year" stipulation is, but I do recall at purchase that Connected Services was included for 1 year. People here have said that FOB remote start stops when Connected Services is terminated. In both of our scenarios, it doesn't seem to make sense since neither of us have had Connected Services initiated.

My understanding is that "Connected Services" are free for a year. Fob is running on some internal hardware, likely unrelated to the app.

If Toyota truly turned this off remotely, that sounds like a greed problem, not a money problem.

I just talked to Toyota, she told me there is no time limit on the key fob starting the truck, only the app that is free for one year. Another guy at work also has a 2021, and his still works with the fob, he did it in front of me in the parking lot. The lady from Toyota said I'll need to go to the dealer to have it diagnosed.

Are you using a professional scanner that scans all systems? The off-the-shelf cheap scanners may not see it.

Are all your doors latched? Normally, how have you been locking the vehicle during the last period where the FOB was successful in Remote Starting. Are you sure it is locked prior to trying the FOB to lock and Start the vehicle?

Added: What I am trying to get at is that the truck may not think it is locked because a latch detector may be not working properly. Has it recently gotten cold where you are?

Try the FOB remote start while looking at the display over the steering wheel.

No scanners used, I don't have a CEL or any warning on the display. If something was serious enough to stop remote start wouldn't I have something come up without needing a professional scanner?

When it has worked in the past the truck was in several different conditions, locked with the door button, locked with the fob, and unlocked. All worked.

I opened and closed all doors several times, locked the truck, and checked all the doors without a key nearby. Then I waited a few minutes and tried the remote start again while my wife watched the display. Nothing came up there while doing it except for the blinker flashes coinciding with the button presses.

Just the customer service national 1-800 number, not a dealer.

I did the exact same thing, same results. Has worked perfectly since December 2020, no issues - ever. I'll try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and report back.

Codes can still be present with no indications to us users.
    I'll give two examples:
A personal example was when I went to have my windshield replaced and the TSS camera realigned. Before starting the job, it was the technician's practice to check for any outstanding codes as a TSS alignment would not be allowed with any stored codes. He said I had 23 codes; I had no CEL or any other indications, he was able to clear them, if not I was off to the dealer as no glass work could be done.
I have Techstream and every time I use it there are lots of codes present - none have lit the CEL. I also do a lot of work on my vehicle with missing modules all the time, so my codes are expected and meaningless, but they do not permanently light a CEL. Or they expire and the CEL goes out, but the code is still in the system.

Sounds like a good thing to do.

I've tried to find the instructions in the Owner's Manuel as to the instructions and "conditions" on using the FOB to remote start and have not been able to. Find those conditions and read them paying attention to each as if they are a caveat. It was something so simple that led to the solution in a previous thread. My searching abilities on this site are pathetic.
