    When I purchased the Tacoma, the salesperson said that the remote start function was to keep working after the Toyota app expired.
    Guess that was just bs to go with the sale.

    Interesting update, my coworkers truck won’t remote start any more. He said he used it every day this week and yesterday in front of me. This morning, nothing.

    Of course. I suspect Toyota is slowly disabling this feature across VINs.

    Update - Remote start via Fob randomly started working again this morning. No changes were made, it just worked when I tried it this morning.

    Chiming in... mine stopped working. Not sure when, as the weather just turned and finally needed too. But it does not work for me as of yesterday from the keyfob.

    Never used the app; never connected.

    Oddly enough, mine stopped working as well. Must be something Toyota has done to have so many stop working all at once.
    My wifes 2016 Rav4 still works just fine.

    I have a ‘21 TRD Off Road. I purchased in April ‘24 with 24k miles. The remote recently quit starting the truck sometime in the last couple weeks.

    I called the dealership and of course they don’t know anything about updates and want to charge $170 per hour plus just to check for updates/diagnostic. They told me I had to pay for the remote app for this to work, stating perhaps the former owner had a trial that expired.

    As for the Toyota app, I set it up, but never paid for anything and never set up any trial. But I could open it up and see the truck with the VIN number.

    This has annoyed me so much that I finally found a number for Toyota Support with the remote app: 1 (800) 331-4331

    Long story short they had me enable the trials under “shop” and so I did. Noting that it had to be linked and is good for 10 years from the original date of purchase.

    After starting the trials, I tried to start the truck and like magic - It worked with the remote like it used to. They claim this will work for the remaining 10 years ending in 2031.

    I should also note they said there have been a lot of Toyotas that it worked on, that should not have with the trial expired. Complete BS in my opinion, but wanted to let you know what they told me officially from Toyota.

    I have a 2021 Taco TRDPro...bought it used at CarMax Sept 2023. Remote start worked through last winter/spring. Since it's now fall and getting cold, it hasn't worked either like so many here.

    @JS777 , when you said "they had me enable the trials under “shop”", is that in the Toyota app? I don't have the app...is that an app on your phone?

    Edit: ok, I downloaded the Toyota app, set it up and signed up for the 3 month trial. And now remote start works! So does Toyota start charging automatically at 3 month for this service? Or does it stop working again?

    Add me to the list. I tried remote start this morning and nada. I’ve replaced key fob battery and it still doesn’t work. I’ve always used the fob never the app. I’m also wondering if the battery (under the hood) needs to be checked. It’s the original battery. I bought the truck in December 2019. I have a 2020 Sport.

    Don’t really have anything to contribute here, but I’m also having the same issue. 2021 Limited, bought in Feb 2024. Never signed up for any Connect services or anything, just assumed the remote start was a normal part of the truck. Suddenly quit working this week after I changed the battery in the fob (just as it gets cold here, of course). I tried re-pairing it with the truck, re-seating the battery, etc, nothing has worked.

    I have 2022 TRD off-road and the remote start stopped working from the Fob this morning, per JeffGilly's post I also downloaded the Toyota app and signed up for the trial. The remote start is now working again. Ohh Toyota, why?????

    Fix confirmed again.

    I have 2022 TRD off-road and the remote start stopped working this past weekend. Per JeffGilly and Mrcarp's posts I also downloaded the Toyota app and signed up for the 10 year trial. The remote start is now working again.

    So, what happens when the 10 year trial runs out? Why Toyota why???!!!

    going on year 5 and the keyfob remote start still works and well past the subscription date that saw the ever helpful but completely invasive voice to text feature go bye bye.
    Also consider these keyfobs are CRAPPY. the pcb momentary switches must have been made with soybean paste instead of copper.
    even in my spare keyfob which is practically new, a firm press does not always register a click, if the red light doesn't blink with the press then it didn't click. Mine has to be pressed with a sideways pressure for it to click reliably enough to get those 3 presses in the allotted time.

    2022 TRD OR bought in April 2024. It just stopped working for me as well. I tried over and over and every derivation (2 clicks, 3 clicks, 4 clicks, various clickclickholds, fast clicks, slow clicks, fastfastcslow, etc) that I could think of with both fobs yesterday. This morning, I tried BT connections, looked for anything in settings on the dash, tried the same derivations over and over. Then I subscribed for the trial (3 months on the app), immediately walked downstairs, grabbed a fob and it started working again. It is 100% the app.

    Now there are only 2 questions remaining for me. First, what is this 10-year trial that everyone is talking about? It's not anywhere on my app. Secondly, I think there should be an option on the app to remote as well, which there isn't. This is all that I see:


    Don't want to derail this thread, but if anyone can comment on this it would be helpful.

    Edit - nevermind, the Service Connect trial went from 3 months to "Up to 10-years" once I activated it. Weird. Dynamic Navigation trial went from 3 months to "Expires on Aug 03, 2025", which is 8 months. Also weird.

    Just curious, for you all that have more than three years on your truck are you still paying for the vehicle it's self?
    I wonder if they keep it active until the vehicle is paid off, (if you are not paying for the app.)
    Mine worked fine at the begining of the summer, just past the three year mark. Paid off truck mid summer but did not try the remote start until a couple weeks ago. No go.
    Still odd that all these folks having the same issue all at once.
