    Glad I found this thread!!!

My 2021 purchased in 01/2021 key fob remote start stopped working recently.

Thought it was the fob battery or truck battery.

Saw this thread and called Toyota (800) 331-4331 this morning. Got someone in under 5 minutes and I asked if fob was related to the app subscription, she said kinda, she said there was no subscription services linked to my truck. She got the VIN and my phone number and email and added Service Connect subscription for free good till Jan 13 2031.

While still on the phone she asked me to try the fob remote start and it works now.
I never had the app or ever used it.

Hope it works for the next couple years lol. If I had to pay monthly my next option would be aftermarket, Ridiculous for something already installed from the factory!!

    Thanks for this thread!!!!

Mine is 2023 and never had to use app or register got it at 5k so first owner maybe bit i was never told needed app or subscription . Today 12/ 21/ 24 i noticed didn't work and used it last maybe 3 weeks ago I'm stumped . Pissed as well , I have a obd thinkdiag+ kinda like a tech stream and allows to register key with ecm and recode new one if wanted but I shouldn't have to it works fine just quit starting with the click click boom . I have new battery In it less.than 2.months ago just for shots and giggles . And ad I understand in 2023 model it comes with it as part of it like any other vehicle nothing that can be controlled by parent company . If so I feel like my privacy rights have been violated , I'll lawyer up just for a button start feature that's mine in my private vehicle amd infringed.upon by an outside source if that is the case if somehow they can just disable a key function that's mine . He'll no , class action mofos
. Crazy . I gonna keep digging but been looking for hours and for whatever reason it quit is mystery but to resolve seems.like have to get an after market or take to dealer but I don't trust theme so that's not happening and like he'll will I pay for something that I already ha e and own. Coukd.be a Russian submarine hacking china's ass hole while they suck on Japan causing satellites to turn towards the iss while Elon musk farts on an robot with AI trying to take over our vehicles and NBC and fox won't tell us

My '23 is just past a year old, received an email from Toyota other day that my connected services would be ending, next day my key fob remote stopped working. I never used it much as the success with any distance was poor. So..I find this thread, and decide to check out installing the Toyota app on my phone. I declined the sharing as others described and signed up. Next day my remote works again, and actually performs better with much greater distance. Thanks for the info- Happy Holidays

Something like that, I was on phone and my mind goes faster than fingers plus auto correct being un correct HAHA.. Im serious though about its gotta violate something . The manual states it uses short range weak radio frequency between key fob and sensors in vehicle with push button keyless entry. No different than using a television remote to turn that specific television on . I've never heard of any television being remotely turned on or having a long range frequency receiver and antenna tucked away in it for the maker 1000's of miles away to suddenly turn on or off and make the remote that comes with it suddenly stop turning on or off but can change channels and turn up volume , In comparison to truck and key fob , a remote a receiver , signal received short wave with one matching frequency opens flow of power sends input to crank to ecm and cranks ... NOw i do have a variable i just thought may be issue with mine . 2023 sr5 off road , never used app or signed up nothing about subscription period is the main focus so fuck talking about subscription and free for a time and apps cranking , the issue started with only key fob direct to vehicle suddenly not working, seems like we have 2 categories or more loosing solution in translation . For the category of direct remote fob to vehicle no other wireless involved willingly or knowingly . For that category i just now remembered a variable that i did , about 4 days before i noticed the 3 click on fob not working when just days before it was , I decided to check out the AT&T wifi activation and turn truck into a mobile hotspot with purchase of a prepaid plan, I have prepaid cell with AT&T already . I went threw the process and hade to make an account for truck threw AT&T and had issues with it not letting me verify threw my email to activate plan i purchased , Got on phone with support and man told me its activated on their end just recently did an update AT&T i mean doing update to their systems regarding updates to toyota vehicles equipped with sim cards for wifi connect and has been giving error messages to owners when renewing wifi in toyotas due to the upgrade and communication with so many different variety of toyotas and hardware receiving in theme. I refreshed my truck screen a few times and it showed connected refreshed email on phone link and showed connected . IT was a few days later i went to do fob 3 click and just the lock lights no crank and hasn't since ... So i wonder if the fob communicates to the sim card and type of hardware its installed in and i pretty much just backdoored and booted the fob from control to cellular signal for wifi and if its possible that this app and subscription that the other category of folks have willingly and or knowingly had a trial or subscription too is how toyota has access to grant threw app and accept the key fob frequency and if not pay or upon their will can block the fobs transmission .. Mine came with fob wireless crank just that nothing else all free hardware to hardware short wave send and receive as if it was an aftermarket so i would assume since same concept in every brand of car for over 10 years now .. tv.. tv remote .. on ..off . If it is not that and to crank with fob has been this sim card that i just now activated threw cellular service which of course reaches all over planet then toyota hasn't been so honest about our ownership and misinforming or misleading about this function . One would honestly expect the key fob to crank is a seperate device installed for its shortwave weak sensor emitting functions that is impossible to be wirelessly accessed by nothing other than the fob thats programmed to it frequency , since isn't that's what costs hundreds of dollars for the dealer to do threw their tech stream supposedly. You can buy aftermarket plug in and program an extra fob to key entry with wireless crank threw fob and thats direct connect and shortwave communication so we are lead to believe .. soo im going to assume me activating the sim card to AT&T prioritized the receiving signal to cellular bandwidth booting the crank by fob frequency leaving just the lock functions to communicate with those sensors in separate locations for those functions essentially .if that's the case then the sim card is the receiver for fob to truck crank and toyota could have access without my permission or knowing regardless or until if was to subscribe opening it up allowing and willingly giving access to it via what would have to be cellular for being able to crank threw app on phone from anywhere by you or theme . Too me that's a very touchy subject and thin line of privacy and hidden secretive actions on their part over millions of vehicles . Now if you are in category of willingly and knowing or informed by toyota about the toyota connect and subscriptions obviously yes you know its being accessed via cellular for the functions it does threw a phone but on subject at hand for it to not work threw the key fob standing 5 foot from your vehicle and denied from it under cellular bandwidth and not weak short range radio waves then wtf . Number one you lied in plain text in the manual point blank . number 2 that's evident of deliberately misinforming or misleading with the intent to selectively impose financial gain upon discretion threw unrealized installed devices software or hardware with no consent or knowledge to owner of property . Does anyone see where i'm coming from ... Any way those for the category 1 just fob to truck no other ways discussed or allowed this AT&T wifi sim card is the variable i have realised on my end for possible reason its not working . Not sure though i will try the clear faults recorded in system threw obd11 device cause i do know i have some i just didn't think that would prevent for safety that someone had mentioned worked for theme .

    all except the AT&T trial.
I’ll go back and remove some privacy / data collection stuff later but wanted to verify first that this was the issue. So far so good.

I need to get the 6 pin from Toyota tomorrow to get the connect app working for remote. The fob is working just fine but the app remote area is blank with just ‘info’ in the center. Shows mileage but not much else. Get with Toyota on a phone call tomorrow

    Mine stopped work too.
Talked to someone at toyota dealer today (jan,11,2025) and he told me that Toyota itself disabled the remote so you have to pay for subscription.
But he also told me that you have the right to have the remote working, since it`s your car and they cant control it.
Here in MA there`s a "right to Repair act" law that prevent Manufacturers to control your vehicle.
So i`ll call Toyota and ask them to make it right.
He said they sell a FOB and you pay $599.00 to make the connection .
    I`ll post any updates here.

I bought my TRD Sport new in Sep of 2023. I never enabled any of the connected services. The key fob remote start quit working about a week ago. After reading several TW comments, I called Toyota Connected Services and they had me download the app to accept the agreement for Connected Services Master Data Consent. The remote start began working immediately.

I’ve since caved in and signed up for the annual subscription service to use remote start from the app as my office is so far from the parking lot that the key fob was out of range anyway.
