    hey tacomaworld!

I currently have a 2016 taco 4x4 sport and i noticed a few months ago my key fob has lost its signal distance whatsoever. I have to be at arms length from the door and sometimes i have to click the fob more than once for it to open. Also, if i want to open the door without the key fob while its in my pocket it doesnt work either. I have to take the fob out and hold it next to the door for the signal to pass through. I already replaced the batteries twice on both key fobs and still no luck. I wonder if it could possibly be that the person that installed my audio didnt do it correctly or when they installed my push buttons in the cubby. Maybe they connected it to the wrong cable and its acting up. Im screwed cus my milage went over the warranty and the dealership will probably charge me a fortune. Has this happened to anyone?

That really sucks. The audio install is the variable but that stuff shouldn’t be powered when the ignition is off. Unfortunately those guys use some very crappy splicing techniques sometimes. The fob is passive with the proximity system. The equipment to check the carrier signal from the truck is an oscilloscope and a sensor that converts its frequency to voltage.

If I were you I’d take it to the audio shop and show them it barely works then ask them to unhook their power splice and see if it returns to normal.

Ill do that because it gets tedious having an inoperable fob

Did they, or did you, install a dash cam?
Installing a rear dash cam can sometimes cause interference that can negatively impact the range of your key fob signal, depending upon how the wiring is run through the headliner.
