I can no longer lock my '06 Tacoma with my key fob. I can, however, UNLOCK it. When I hit the unlock button, I hear the door unlock and I can see the parking lights flash twice. When I hit the lock button, nuttin'.

Reading through this forum, I've tried some of the troubleshooting suggested:

    • Replaced the battery in the fob
    • Checked to see if the lock button on the door panel is functioning properly (it is)
    • Disassembled the fob and used a fresh pencil eraser to clean the button area. (They're little buttons on a circuit board, so I'm not sure the eraser did any good.)
    • Removed any items from the cigarette lighter ports

Still nothin'. After all of the above, my guess is a bad fob. So what's involved with replacing the fob? Is that something I have to get from the dealership?

    Thank you kindly for this.

Nice to know that due to it being a 2005-2010 Tacoma, I probably won’t need the assistance of a locksmith to program it. I thought it was gonna be a hassle to replace this thing.

    Much obliged!

In your cleaning of the switches try some CRC Electronics cleaner.

Won't hurt anything, may help. Even HF has it.

Does your key in chime still beep with the key out and door open?
Does the door ajar light go out when all the doors are closed?
