A thief got into my truck at my regular place of work and, among other things, stole the key that opens the driver door.

I still have both the beepers/push-button engine starters - he did NOT get these.

I am not comfortable with the idea that this thief can/will let himself into the car whenever he wants and steal what is inside. I assume he will return.

    What are my options?

Dealership said I need to get a whole new set of keys/beepers cut and reprogrammed to start the engine, and it will be pricey. Said they would call in the morning with a quote.

This seems unnecessary, as all he got was the key that will open the driver door. He can't start the engine with this key, so I don't think there is a risk of the car getting stolen. All I need is the lock cylinder replaced...

The keys themselves are not programmed to the truck, just the fobs are (I think)
You should be able to get a new door lock and tailgate lock with key from a just yard.

The dealer probably wont sell you just a tumbler and key.

Also, something to keep in mind. If you change the locks and the person comes back they will jam the old key in there and turn it as hard as they can till it breaks. Though they will probably just leave the key after they try and fail (but still break stuff)

I don't really understand why I would need the dealer to reprogram anything, seems I just need the driver door lock cylinder and tailgate cylinder to be changed out. They didn't get the fob to start the engine.

If anything, seems like more of a locksmith job than a dealer job.

They shouldnt have to reprogram anything, but dealers like to not sell individual parts when they can bundle them with more expensive things.

Sideways dash cam time, at least at work. Also, if you are office bound and park nearby, get an alarm with remote sender, or at least a HF driveway sensor and put it in your truck- it will alert you up to 300ft away of any movement. We keep one with a magnet attached to the side of our trailer and I keep one on my truck too. It alerts men inside my house.

You could take your lock cylinders to a lock smith. He can change your tumbler pins and cut a new key for them. Probably be the cheapest route.

Where can I order the lock cylinder for the 2018 Off-Road Push Button?
Dealer quoted me $225 for the part plus labor.
I might just buy it myself and take it to another dealer to install.

Alright, so in conclusion, i called around all the dealers and found the cheapest price for parts plus labor to change out the driver door lock cylinder is $320.

I got a range of prices from dealers, going up to $700 for the job.

One dealer told me that toyota would not let them change out just a single lock cylinder, only option was to get driver, tailgate, and glovebox rekeyed, as well as two new beepers coded for push start engine at cost of $2200. They called this thr Toyota key package. This is what prompted my first post. Shocking that this dealer exists.

I will obviously get it rekeyed for $320, and get a single key for the driver door. The tailgate and glovebox will use the slideout fob keys still.

Do you guys think i will take a hit on the resale value from this?

Do you think an auti locksmith could repin my existing cylinder, without me needing to purchase a new lock cylinder part?

reading this makes me think I never tried the key in anything other than the tailgate. Does that key also open the door? Then what's the purpose of the physical key in the key fob?

On 2018 models the valet key opens tailgate and driver door. Its just an additional key to those in the fobs
