Patience please, I’m still learning about this truck (99, prerunner).

Yesterday the wife and I were running errands. I turned the engine off and left the key in the ignition in the off position (just did not remove key from cylinder). Left wife in truck went in store. Came back out and tried starting the truck. It would crank, but not turn over. Was getting frustrated. Wife said DUMMY take key out of ignition, reinsert and try starting the truck. Did as instructed and truck fired right up.

Question! Is that some kind of immobilization feature for the idiot owner that would the keys in the ignition of an unattended vehicle?
