My 2016 Tacoma was delivered to me yesterday and I am trying to see if everything is there. My Tacoma came with 2 key fobs each have a key in the fob to use incase the fobs breaks. In the owners manual it shows as item 4 a small metal tag called a key number plate. If you lose one of the key fobs your dealer can get you a replacement using the other fob and the key number plate. Would the dealer be able to find the key number plate by the VIN or am I over reacting?

I would imagine if you go to the dealer and prove you own the vehicle and are not just some thief, they can cut a key using the VIN.

The key number plate is only needed if you have no key, and even at that a dealer or most any sizable locksmith shop can cut a new one if they have the VIN--heck, any competent professional car thief can make one if they have the VIN...
