I've been reading this thread and see that you are the recommended expert.

I've bought two keys and after cutting them neither one will open the door. Does a key have to be programmed to turn the door lock? They won't turn the ignition lock either.

I followed this youtube video to try to program the key with no success too.

    Any ideas?

Yeah, get a better key cutting guy. The key is 100% mechanical, if the cut isn't just right it won't move the pins to the right position to allow the cylinder to rotate. Whoever cut your key screwed up. You need to buy new keys and start over.

Once you get the keys to rotate the lock cylinders, then you have to worry about programming the anti-theft chip. I think 2012 uses the G key. There will be a letter stamped on your key to tell you for sure. You need to program the key with a programmer. The open the door five times, pat your head rub your belly, pray to the rodent king won't work on later gen 2's.

Thanks. After calling four dealerships to find out how badly they wanted to rape me, prices, appointment, length of time to wait for a fifteen minute job... I called my local Ace Hardware and found out they have the keys and can do the programming. Literally fifteen minutes, and I was done. $85 including tax.
