This has been happening to me...but I don't believe its the key or the ignition....its the shifter...for the last three days I put slight "to the right pressure" on the shifter as I shift into park...and I have not had a problem...give it a try!

I too am having issues with the key getting stuck. It seems to me that the method of moving the gear shifter and the steering wheel works to release the key. I also found that if I remove the fuse from the single fuse box with two red wires and the white tag on it, that it not only releases the key, but stops the security system from going off while trying to get the key out.

    Worked for me!

    Old thread but good info.

Shifter is still a little loose, but better than before. Key comes out and that matters most. I'll probably order the little plastic bushings that are supposed to be there to get rid of remaining slop.

    None significant
So, if it isn't the steering column lock, you might want do add another step in trouble shooting the transmission shift lock. If you can't turn to off or remove the key, make sure to go from park to drive and back to park. You also want to rock the vehicle back and forth. My son parks on a hill, and it happens when the truck doesn't move once in park. If you parked on a hill you have noticed a slight movement once you take foot off the brake. For his 2002 Tacoma, you can hear and audible click when the parking lock engages.
