Key West, San Diego, PNW, Alaska and North East Adventure

First trip into Seattle.

 

Took on the Cascade Loop, nice safe way to get my feet wet into the area. First stop is not technically part of the loop but the town of Blaine didn't disappoint.

 

Hopping off the loop I headed of towards Mt. Baker, you would be hard pressed to find a better view to wake up to.

 

Getting back onto the Cascade Loop, first POI's Newhalem, Gorge dam, Ross Lake and Washington Pass.

 

Over on the east side of the Cascades drove up to Slate Peak the highest drivable road in the state.


Apples, cherries everywhere.

On my way back down hiked the Iron Goat Trail and explored some tunnels.
(not this tunnel)




Then my camper decided it didn't want to be on my truck anymore. So broke out the ratchet straps to limp my way into the nearest town. Found another use for my @Pelfreybilt rock sliders.

 

Olympic Peninsula Part 1

 

Its been awhile since I last updated this, so this is what has happened.

 

Camping under trees larger than your truck,

Then Fall left and old man winter set in,
North Cascades NP

Not going to stop me,



This state is gorgeous!

Snow camping gets a little addictive,


The night the sky turned red,

 

Hmmm not a normal campsite but it'll have to do.



Decided to head out to the Olympic Peninsula for part 2, weather was amazing!


Back to the snow, Mount Saint Helens area,

Escaped to eastern side of the cascades,


Then traded the camper for a tent and one pot meal, got go snowshoeing at least once.

Stayed busy through out the summer, with family and friends visiting, expos to attend and the proverbial jobs to finance this endeavor. Anywho photo dump time!

Headed to the Olympic Pennisula for the continuing saga of never enough time to explore Part 3.

Okanagan National Forest WABDR, with a full-time job I have only been able to do weekend trips now.


Back to Slate Peak Highest Driveable Road in WA State Elev. 7800' probably my favorite place in all of the state.

 

It's time to start prepping for the ALCAN and Alaska.

First let's upgrade the camper.




Rebuilt the interior for better weight balance.






Built a mounting system for the recovery boards and HiLift jack. Added rear LED lights for the dark Alaska nights.


And finally a "reliable" heater (foreshadowing)

 

Crossed over the Cascades south of the border, entered Canada near Penticton B.C my logic was to drive up through the Wenatchee valley between the Rockies to the east and Cascades to the west.



First night camping in Canada. If you can find them, remote airstrips are the best spots in my opinion.


Roadwork in the middle of nowhere! This was going to a reoccurring theme for this trip.


After miles of driving finally the official start of the ALCAN. While many come up the west side of the cascades I cannot recommend enough driving through Wenatchee valley route.



Airstrip camping at its finest. Also the night that the furnace quit functioning.



Having stored music or satellite radio is a must. Also extra fuel doesn't hurt either as there is nothing for kilometer after kilometer.

Except for furry cows



But then occasionally civilization appears. (sign has seen better days)


Then you come across a forest of signs.

 

After topping off the tanks in Whitehorse turned even further north toward Dawson City.

Ooops wrong turn, maybe someday later.

And just outside of town is the largest surviving gold dredge in North America.



Leaving Dawson heading west you take a ferry across the Yukon river onto the top of the world highway.
