    Hi all,
My 2017 ordered SR with the utility package will be coming in in about a week. I'm going to add the keyless entry I was wondering if I can do it myself or if I should have the dealer install it. I looked up the Toyota part but I don't know where it's located in the truck. Does anybody have any idea or a diagram of where the ECU is located, I would rather do it myself then have the dealer do it if possible. Thank you

    That is encouraging.
Makes me wonder if the wiring is in there considering the wiring is in the column for cruise control and intermittent wipers.

I just called the Toyota dealer and they told me it won't work. Of course I'm not 100% sure they know what they're talking about but he said that they tried it in on the SR he said the wiring is not there.

help me out here...are you saying they sell a tacoma that you have to open the door by inserting and truing a key? to me key less entry is the truck senses when you approach and when you touch the door handle it unlocks/lockes. if this is what you are talking how would one ever do after market, how would you get sensors in the door handle. or are you talking about entry by pushing a button on the key FOB? have seen prior posts on this subject and never understood the subject. not being a smart ass just would like to know exactly what these posts exactly are about.

Yes, I have to insert my key into my door and turn it to unlock it. If I turn it twice, it unlocks the passenger side door. Turning once the opposite way locks both doors.
When we are talking about adding keyless entry, we are talking about adding a push button transmitter and a receiver to lock & unlock our trucks.
    Hope that helps.

    Utility package owner here...

I was also told it won't work because part of it involves a different TPMS unit (has combined TPMS / Fob sensor apparently?) that costs like $1,300 from the factory. So, not at any reasonable price point at the very least.

This is interesting because all SR models have the same simple TPMS without the display and just reads on or off , on the SR5 and up trim levels with the larger display it reads individual tires and has a different TPMS system. When you order a SR with option code (LL) The convenience package , it comes with the same simple TPMS system as the utility package but adds keyless entry and cruise control. So I assumed that the wiring would be there also , but was told not by a dealer. I tried to order the utility package and the convenience package together and was told by Toyota that was a conflict and not available that way. So it's looking more like an aftermarket systems will be the only way.

I am also looking to add keyless entry. At the time of purchase my dealer told me it could be added. But that was the sales department and they may not know what they are talking about. I think I am just going to go to Car Toys and see what they can do.

being able to open the door without touching the key fob or inserting a key is smart entry.

dealing with the sales department 70% of my day, I wouldn't believe everything they say. speak with a service advisor if you could or your local dealer should have soeone that deals with accesories/add ons.
