Hey guys after almost 10 months of ownership I realized that if I insert my key on my drivers side and turn it twice to the right (I think is the right for unlock) the copilot door opens.. so we (sr owners) have the "brain" or something already in our trucks that can send the signal to open both doors.. so why it is so complicated/expensive to upgrade to a factory keyless entry?

It's not about being able to pop the locks, that's part of the central locking.

It's that there is no receiver for a wireless signal. No receiver, no fob. TL;DR it's a radio without an antenna. The antenna is the expensive part.

I have the 2017 SR no convience package and the dealership told me if i wanted to do keyless entry to just bring it back and it would cost 150$. I don’t think they have to do much to make it work maybe install a receiver that’s it. I’m going to have it installed soon.

They are going to install an aftermarket system. This is going to involve cutting and splicing of your factory harness.
If you are OK with that no worries, but if you are expecting it to be a Toyota OEM part, beware.

    Late answer, I know, but...

No, sadly. Push button starts run off a different authentication (which is good, otherwise your Tacoma would be trivially easy to hotwire) and the wiring plus modules are not there.

Same here on adding the convenience pkg to my SR. The cost diff between my SR and SR5 was a lot for me too. Now with truck paid off, I can afford add-ons. I have found if you look long enough you can indeed get what you want. Seek and you can find. My truck looks just like an SR5 externally, just want to add cruise, intermittent wipers and remote entry, then it will have all I wanted.

There are plenty of options for adding remote entry to your SR. I work overnight and have to park outside, so I opted for a remote start system. I took it one step further with a security package because my insurance premium goes down $17 a month. It will pay for itself in less than 2 years, and I'll have the truck much longer than that. The best part is that remote takeover relies on the brake rather than the driver door, so it never shuts off

Thanks - I’ve been using the keyless linked in this thread for about a year. It works great, but the lighting features have never worked. Until now I just let it go and disconnected the taps going into connector C11.

After reading how the controller is programmed — it kind of sounds like it’s designed for the higher-trim light stalks... which defeats the purpose of designing a keyless system for the base models!

Here’s the stalk on my truck that doesn’t have the headlight control features the instructions seems to rely on:

I hope I’m wrong, but it really does sound like connector C11 interacts differently with certain lighting stalks.

Did you test this? the #17 is the Flash select on the stalk.

Thanks! I’m not sure what you mean by flash select. There doesn’t seem to be many options on my light stalk.

When you pull the stalk back, you FLASH the high beams...when you push forward, it locks into high beams...
the missing "feature" is the auto light control #20 (white), wire is there but no connection on the stalk. And no, changing the stalk does not activate the auto light feature.

Yes that works just fine. So if #17 controls flash, are you saying the kit is designed to turn on my high beams when I unlock and lock the truck? That’s horrible!! It’s like walking into the sun when I unlock my truck with that wire tap connected. Is there a wire that just controls low beam on that connector?
