Keyless entry remote

I bought a keyless entry remote for my 04, and when I went to program it, it didn't work. I tried multiple times and still same result. Do I need to take it to a dealership to program and if so what are we looking at for the cost range?

 

I bought my key fob from the stealership for around $80 and they program it for you, to your specific VIN#. At least that's what I did since when I bought my truck the previous owner gave me the one he had and the part where the key ring goes onto was broke.

Check to make sure you got the right remote. You have gotten a gray-coded (for the RS3000) but the 04's most likely came with the black-coded ones (for the RS3200). Your remote should have had Toyota Part # 08191-00922.

 

I have 2 my 04 remote programmed myself. I don't think dealer programming is required. You need to ensure the same FCC ID as working so they have the same frequency. I think I use the steps from the following link:
