I live in Fullerton so yeah we are 20 minutes away. I will be helping a buddy of mine move to Irvine off of Sand Canyon Ave in 2 weeks. I'm always in Irvine so sure we can meet up.

I actually want to go to a Junk Yard and try my luck there, I think that would be the quickest way to get the harness. There is a pretty big junk yard off of Beach Blvd in Anaheim.

Also you can try a part locator website. There are many of them. I guess how they work is you fill out all the required info of what you need and your vehicle info and they do the "searching" for you. They charge a marginal fee. But it might be work a shot.

I kind of want to order that V3 Base Kit. but I might be jumping the gun since I do not have the hard to find harness. Did you check if they had the V3 Base Kit for your 2001 Tacoma?

Let me know what you find. :)

Sorry, and I'm not trying to be mean, but your wrong. Infact I still have the key fabs; and they have the Toyota simbol on them. I have the window sticker too, I'll dig it up when I get home. The keyless entry WAS factory. And no, the truck did not have an alarm. I'm just saying, I know what I had, and what came on the truck factory.

    blackwidow...

thats great news, if you dont mind finding part numbers and locating what keyless system you have that would be great news for the tacoma world in my opinion...

just to point this out though...I think it is very possible to have a generic keyless entry system programmed to a toyota keyless entry module...this is something the dealership could have chosen to do

for my sake though hopefully im wrong and you can find a part number for the keyless entry module!

in all my years on tacoma forums...ive NEVER seen Enola be wrong about something related to tacoma factory options...EVER

    with that said

as he implied earlier...if you had keyless entry...it was included with a security system or added after the factory (possibly at the port or dealer)

The 2000 model year did have an option of adding in the RS3000 TVIP system which would have been classified as an alarm and did have key fobs/keyless entry

here's a link to the manual for the rs3000 system
    http://www.parksoffroad.com/tacomamods/alarminfo/alarminfo.htm#rs3000features

its POSSIBLE you had the RS3200 or RS3200+ system i think...which is still a TVIP system

your fobs would more than likely look like this if you had the 3200/3200+
    [IMG]

once again, these arent JUST keyless entry systems, but security set ups

I would be interested in seeing the window sticker though

my guess if you have a window stick also is that it is the "VIP" sticker that comes with the rs3000 kit...if you read my post that has the link to the alarm install system the last step actually tells you to clean the window and put the sticker on!

    by the way...

I want to caution you about going to the pick a part on beach blvd...

I went their about a week and a half ago to get a part for my civic....I was in their for about 15 minutes and I returned to my truck that was missing a tail light...

I was jacked for my rear left tail and it cost me $120 bucks to replace it with a factory assembly...

just be aware of the shady fuckers in that area...I would try to go in an older car if you have one or know someone with one that isnt as nice looking

Thanks for the information. I have an 01 corolla also but for some reason that does not make me feel better if I drive that there. That car can be more of a target there then my tacoma.

Let me know if you can locate that harness!

I'm not disputing that you may have a Toyota-branded RS3XXX kit on your truck. By the same token, I'm absolutely confident your truck didn't roll out of NUMMI with it installed, and that conclusion is based on the factory spec and options documentation. In other words - the keyless entry equipment may well have been installed by the time you received it at your point of sale, but it wasn't 'factory'.

By the time a Taco reached the point of sale, there were two places where add-ons could be done post-factory. One is the regional distribution center ('port'), and the other is the dealership. Optional equipment and accessories for (e.g.) 'special editions' and such were often done at the ports. Additional accessories and some even more locally-specific 'special edition' equipment were commonly added at the dealership prior to sale.

This is why certain configurations, 'editions', and even named models (e.g., the SST model offered for a while in the Southeast sales region) are difficult to deal with - the equipment was 'stock', but often not 'factory' at all.

Keyless entry was not a *factory* option until the 2003 model year on any model or trim level of Tacoma. Keyless entry in the form of a partial RS 3XXX kit could have been added as a post-factory and even pre-point-of-sale accessory in any model year in which the kit was available.

Ok, here's the thing, when I bought the truck new, it came with a keyless entry already on it. But it did not have a security system. I looked at the link you gave, and the key fabs that came with the truck were exactly like the one in the link, and not like the one in the picture above...you if that helps. :)

Ok, I see what your saying and I see what the difference is now. I confused STOCK as being FACTORY, I never would have figured that any company would add stock items befor the vehicle is for sale as if they came from the factory.

(at the same time, I sorta view "stock" items to be factory, even if you put them on a year after you had the vehicle. Please take that with a pound of salt because I view stock items sorta one in same as factory items, just installed later. This is "as a possed to" an aftermarket part. Hopefully you understand what I mean)

Anyways, the truck came with the keyless entry, but it did not have an alarm on it. So that is wierd, because I know the dealership would have mentioned it, just so they could charge an extra couple dollars onto the bill for me; their so nice that way. lol

My guess is that your dealer (or the port) installed the early RS1000 keyless entry system, which was a dealer-installed accessory. This system was available in the 2000 model year for a variety of Toyota vehicles. That year you could get keyless functions with the RS1000 kit and the more extensive alarm functions with the RS3000 kit. I wouldn't be surprised if the RS1000 was basically a partial RS3000 kit.

Dealers are often free to add accessories, etc., to vehicles arriving on their lots.

Wowzers!!! :bananadance: I just scored this on ebay. Pleeeeeeease let this be the real deal.......... It's listed as just for the 2002 and it looks to have the wiring harness! and everything else... Being as the wiring harness is so damn unobtanium, I bought this thing without a moment's hesitation. Worth a try to me for $100. Oh please oh please be the right one....

Congrats. If it works, can you let us know if there's a part number on the wire harness? I'm trying to do the same thing on my 02. Thanks

Got the kit. Seems legit. I dont really know how to tell if its for sure the right one for the 02 until I go to installing it...I figure I'll try to match it up to what the official installation docs show though before I go tearing the dash apart. Ive already read over the install docs and the install really doesnt look too bad.

Heres a couple pics. There is a sticker with a part numberish looking number on the wire harness...but its a bit too long...maybe dropping off the last few (3?) numbers makes it legit...? But then i think the first number is too long still? Toyota part numbers are 12345-12345, iirc. Thoughts?

    Sticker says:

    297140-39700700
    RS3200 (Tacoma)

    Thanks!

Good luck with the install. From what I've read, you're going to need the "Base Kit (08585-33830)" along with the install kit that you already have. The base kit is still available...Not cheap.

Ya, I couldn't see the base kit in the pics but from the way the auction was worded, I decided to wait til it arrived to be sure it wasn't actually included...and it wasn't. Just ponied up for a new one just now for another $150. So $250 total on it. Totally worth it to me considering its OEM and all plug-n-play.

I'll post up how the install goes.

Still boggles my mind that so many of these trucks sold without the keyless entry....

I am simply trying to source keyless entry, no alarm.

What exactly is the 'base kit'? The parksoffroad directions refer to: "V3 Base Kit (08585-33830)"....is that the ECU?

As best I can tell I need a V3 ECU, V3 ECU wire harness and some fobs, correct? Reading a bit, it appears the V3 ECU is the same for several car models and not too hard to find....but which kit includes the wire harness (for the V3, not the full alarm kit)?

Well...turns out the base kit is also no longer available... It is "manufacturer discontinued". I tried to order it online through a couple of the well known Toyota parts dealers and they both couldn't get it.

But I got lucky... I know a good parts guy in NM from my LandCruiser circles--Dan @ American Toyota--so I called him up and he was able to see that there were still a few around the US at different dealers and he has the power to request one. So I got it comin. Hopefully in the next week it'll be here.
