The exact base kit for the tacoma ordered through a dealer might be hard to source for sure. But it appears the base kit is the same for similar year cars (just the V3 ECU), its just the harness that is different and that doesnt come with the base kit, correct? The generic base kit seems easily found online.

Honestly, I got tired of trying to wade through hundreds of threads with info stating both that yes the ECU is the same as other models and that no its not. Thats why I was just going new. But if my buddy Dan wasnt able to get it for me, I was definitely going to be looking harder into it.

Yea makes sense (though most of the threads I got sick of were the ones debating what model year started keyless entry vs alarms).

Still seems like that harness is the trouble spot as its a deal killer if you cant find one.

So am I correct in that you need the Base Kit + Harness for simple keyless entry? (no alarm).

On these kits, the VIP 3200 does both the keyless entry and the alarm. So you need both the harness kit and the base kit to get keyless entry which also happens to be the alarm. IIRC, there is a glass breakage sensor that can be added on top of that for some models but I don't care to get it.

Heck ya. Got the base kit in now. Super thanks to Dan at American Toyota. Hopefully I'll be installing this sucker this weekend!

Btw, I dont know how thorough other people have been able to check for the wiring harness in the past...but now I'm curious to see if Dan would be able to locate this wiring harness kit...I shoulda asked him when I ordered the base kit last week... Worth a shot for those still interested in finding this sucker.

I'm following this thread with interest because my '95 has this keyless entry/alarm system. However there is no documentation of course in the owners manual.

I've had '99, '00 and '01 Tacomas and this is the first one with this system. I find it so convenient that I too would probably try and install it on another truck if it did not have it.

However once in a while I do something out of proper sequence and the alarm goes off. I'd like to get my hands on a manual if there's one out there someplace.

Well the wiring kit I got is legit. :) Just finished up the install and everything is working great. Took me about 1.5 hours but could easily do it faster a second time....heh....I was being extra freaking careful with everything.

So stoked! I feel like the luckiest dude on the planet to have found this freaking wiring.

That looks more like an RS3000 fob to me....

    Here's what mine look like.

RS3000? Ok. I did look at the RS3000 manual (thanks tigerfan00) but the fobs pictured there look like this.

I'm trying to determine just which system my '95 has?

Been a while since I'd seen an RS3000 fob...but you're right...totally different. I'm afraid I'm not gonna be any more help... I'd say you're just gonna have to keep searching around the 'nets for more info. If it didn't have the toyota sombrero logo, I would say it was after-market.... Maybe there's an rs2800 or some such earlier version...

I would but the install doc has much better instructions and illustrations than I could ever come up with... I don't know if its available for download anywhere at the moment but I can email it to anyone if they need it.

Also, the correct part numbers are listed on the first page.

And as for programming, the only one I've gotten to work on mine is the one to program a new FOB. I found one that supposedly altered the auto lock/unlock when engine starts/stops and one to change the unlock between drivers door or all doors unlock on first push, but those just manage to unprogram whatever FOB I'm using. Lucky the add new FOB one works....

Sorry guys. Talked to my man Dan today about some other parts I needed and I had him look up the wiring harness part number and unfortunately he couldn't find it at all. :(

Hello op, read the first couple posts, but it all seems like some misinformed peoples. Heres the deal.

The factory NEVER installed the keyless entry/security sensors. EVER. still dont infact. its a dealer option. its rs3200, or for later 1st gens rs3300 system, also known as the VIP option in the paperwork.

the system itself is not to difficult, much of it relys on the driver door sensor surprisingly.

as far as identifying which system you have, first you must find the system. Toyota dictated in first gens that they were to be installed under the driver seats. many were jammed in driver side kick panel or under dash. id say atleast 24 wires, but little box. also somewhere is a glass break sensor, sound activated.

The remotes are cheaper through ebay, and you dont need to do the weird open door shut door method, theres a button on the alarm module itself. deal.

sorry if this has been covered.

I know this thread is extremely old. But, any of these members still active and have any updates on where to find this harness?
