I have a 98 tacoma, it has 2 keys . 1 for door and 1 for ign. Are they anyway to have 1 key cut to do both?

You must have had either the ignition or the door locks replaced on your truck then.

Also have your house keyed to match your truck doors.

I did just this built a custom lock for the house .

The looks it gets is well worth all the fabrication when you hand them the key with only a Toyota key and say unlock the door

This, a locksmith can rekey the locks.

But keep in mind that the key a dealer would cut you from your vin would no longer work. So make spares.

Go to a locksmith. They can rekey your ignition or door key to operate both locks.

Yes, obviously somebody changed either the door lock, or most likely, the ignition cylinder and did not bother to have it keyed as original. I had a 96, and I had the ignition cylinder replaced once, and my wife had her 96 RAV4 ignition cylinder replaced twice. Both times, we had the choice of a cylinder with a different key, or for about $30 more, we could get a keyable ignition cylinder that could be keyed to match the original. It was a no brainer to go ahead and get the keyable ignition cylinder because otherwise, we would have had to carry two keys around, for the door and ignition! And I had always kept an ORIGINAL key from when I bought the truck new, in a drawer, just so if I ever needed to make replacement keys, they could be cut from an original unused key, so I just had the mechanic use the original key to key the new ignition cylinder lock. The keyable ignition lock cylinders run around $180, with a locksmith charging around $50 to rekey it. All of this can be done at your local mechanic, will probably charge about $150 labor including the locksmith charge. At least, that is what mine charged in the past. I would recommend, as others here have done, that you go ahead and replace the ignition lock cylinder and have it keyed the same as the door. If you do not have a good original key, which it sounds like you won't, then I would get the dealer to key you an original key from the VIN#, and then keep that key in a drawer somewhere, only used for making copies.
