Nice! I'm going to look at at a Bendpak HD-9 installation on Friday. That one has two sliding jacks and has been used for a huge variety of work such as leaf spring replacement, solid rear axle R&R, etc and so on. I was pretty well set on a 2-post setup, even going as far as to specify the concrete requirements. But the more I think about 4-post the more sense it makes for my needs. I do want it for service work, so it will need to be out from the walls to allow access on all sides. But since I'm still designing I can allow for that. I also have 12 ft ceilings planned but I need to remember to allow for the overhead door. How much room does that take? I'm guessing about a foot?

Nice roadie BTW. :) I have an '07 M Coupe and a 3.0si coupe. The latter is up for sale so I can get something that doesn't have a fixed roof. I thought about another Z4 but I really want to experience other drivetrain layouts; a flat 6, or a V8, maybe even a V12. Life is short after all.

i had an 05 z4 3.0 that i ordered brand new back in the day and loved it. always said if i got another it would be an m, love that car. drove it all day yesterday with the top down.

back to your lift, that's cool it comes with the sliding jacks, def something i want to look into some day. i did a 4 post because i heard it's not good for the suspension to be stored on a 2 post. my garage door goes right up to the ceiling, might be a little under a foot total that it takes up. also, remember you'll need a couple of inches to raise the car out of the locks before you can lower it. i've put tape on one of the posts so i know how high i can lift depending on which care goes on top

Nice tape. ;) The jacks are an accessory for the lift you have so you can add them in the future if you want. I was thinking about the lift as a service tool but like the idea of using it for storage as well, enough so that I would probably be willing to sacrifice some service-side functionality. Especially if the sacrifice is small.

If you are limited on space a twin post is a better option.I have both types at both of my jobs.Twin post you can get to everything on the vehicle. 4 post have to climb/duck/crawl under the lift so you can under it to stand up,need a tool duck under again, and again, etc. The only benefit (i see) to a 4 post is doing exhaust work, where you want the vehicle at ride hieght.

I used twin post lifts when I wrenched for a living. They were really nice hydraulic units installed under the floor. Nothing overhead at all. That was at the shops that had any kind of lift at all! I did a heck of a lot of work on jackstands. The truck shop I worked in had a pit.

I haven't worked under a 4-post lift but I see your point about having to duck under it. That probably gets old pretty quick. I'll be interested to see the rig tomorrow and ask the owner about stuff like that. He's done a lot of work under his.

I normally work 4- 10 hour days, so I usually only have to go into the office 3 days/week, and I work from home 1 day week. But when holiday weekends come around, I end up having Saturday-> Wednedsay at home (I telework Wed). So i get 5 days at home, then 2 days in the office, then 4 days at home. Its a nice gig.

I did overnight shifts one summer during college, and that basically told me i never wanted to do it again. Now I work for NAVSUP, and life is good.

Plus since i have so much time at home, i have a hard time using up vacation time, before the end of the year. And with the government, you can only carry over a certain number of hours at the end of the year, and you lose the rest. So i tend to take half days on fridays just to burn through hours.

yeah, i can carry over 240 hours at the end of each year. At the end of this pay period, i have 86 hours that i need to burn to keep me under 240 at the end of the year.
